we have a honda rancher es 350 and its nice it does all the work horse stuff we need. of course we dont haul a 1000 lb trailer around, so im sure you would need a bigger cc engine. not sure from experience but i heard the yamaha grizzly is pretty good as well. but if you want something without alot of maintenance id say honda! lol we abuse ours (i know its bad) but it still runs like the day we got it almost 10 years ago. the electric shift is easy to use and ive heard people say they have problems with it but out of 10 years ours has never been in the shop and nothing has malfunctioned yet. i guess it all depends on what you do with it

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
we have a 03 Grizzly 660, hands down the best ATV made i think, has plenty of power and will climb anything with the locking diffs. It has been a great servant to our family

I rode all of these when I went riding with my sister, her boyfriend, and a few of their friends. I got a chance to ride them all on trails and hill climbs with a little bit of mud. My favorite was the Grizzly in the background. It hauled me around, over, thrugh, anything I told it to. I'm 6'2" 220lbs and it had no problems with me on it, although the motor did get really hot and burned my legs a few times.

That Artic Cat was nice, it's my sister's bf's, it was a manual with auto-clutch, but I didn't like the shifting it was sloppy hard to get into gear, when engaged the 4x4 was likely to rip your arms off at the slightest bumb with throttle behind it. It didn't feel as stable on hill climbs, or at speeds. But still an overall nice atv it hauled my sister and her boyfriend all day on 1 tank of gas probably ~450 lbs between them both.

The one in the left background was a honda it would be my second choice I like it but you had to stop to engage 4x4, or so I was told by the owner, it's shifter was alot smoother and not so much slop in it. 4x4 didn't affect steering effort too much and it felt the most stable on the hills. It was quick too.

I'm not sure about hauling or towing much with any of these, but the Grizzly pulled my deer just fine, 210lbs with me driving. If I were to buy one today I'd buy the Grizzly I think if you buy a new(er) one they came with power steering opitional it would be nice but not missed if I didn't have it. Hope this helps. I've never ridden a Polaris except the one my grandfather owned but that was 10+ years ago so I couldn't give a good review on one. Same for the BRP Can-am as I have only sat on them in the dealer's, FWIW the seat is very confty and handlebars have a nice reach and ergonomics for me.

I have owned 4 ATV's. 1st was a 1999 Yamaha Big Bear 350 and is was an awesome quad the whole time I owned it except the fulltime 4 x 4. 2nd was a 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EFI and this machine was GREAT except it was a freakin monster. I now own 2 Honda Foreman 500's which are 2008 and a 2009. I have found for hunting these are my favorite. I have carried a bull elk out of the forest the was cut in half and on both racks with myself and another person on it and it performed flawless. And for trail riding my wife and I both love them. So I would recommend the Honda Foreman 500 with POWER STEERING!!!!!!!!!!!!! But Thats Jus My Choice.

whatever you get , do not buy used polaris
the new ones are good , the old ones like 2006 and down , suck
get a honda you will be happy , no belt issues
you control in what gear you are , simple reliable .
    rubicon will do the job
and no repair shop visits ;)

I also voted for the Honda. That would be my choice for what he wants to do with his bike. I would never suggest or recommend the Polaris. Seen way to many problems with them over the years.
