I own a 2012 Polaris Sportsman 400 HO. My Cousin owns a 550XP. I have owned Honda as well as yamaha. I LOVE a Honda atv but i say hands down Polaris. Best ATV I have ever owned. It is a 455cc engine and auto transmission. It has a 1225 lbs tow capacity which is more than plenty for me. i cut up a poplar tree that was pretty hefty in size and drug it out across a small creek with no problems. Polaris is the only TRUE 4x4 in an atv. all 4 wheels turn. alot i have had experience with only one front wheel turns sometimes. I love my polaris and I would suggest just a Sportsman 400 or 500 for what you are doing

Yea the old polaris' had belt issues because the belt cover was very thin flimsy plastic. You know, ride all day it gets very warm, go through a creek or mud, it cools down too quick and warps. the new polaris' have beefed up covers and ive experienced no problems with mine at all.

Sorry, but that is not true at all. I have a Yamaha Kodiak (same thing as a Grizzly) which has a front electric diff lock so all 4 tires pull no matter what when the locker is engaged. This locker can work in 4Hi or 4Lo. Also, the Brute Force's have a lever that you pull to engage a locking front differential I believe. I'm unsure of other makes/models.

I voted Grizzly because of the good service that we have had out of our yamaha. I live on a dairy farm and we have a Yamaha Bruin 350 4x4, we absolutely abuse the crap out of it and it hasn't given a bit of trouble since we bought it in new 06. We priced a new one the other day and they are about $4,800. Yamaha's are solid! Just my $.02

right. Only models with a diff lock though. my best friend owns a brute force 750. I guess what i meant was when you engage 4x4 its all 4 wheels locked. without having to hit the diff lock. I stand corrected.

The Polaris Sportsman I had kept rounding out the axle splines. Was pretty irritating when AWD turned into 3 wheel drive. Got rid of it and tried a Rincon 680.. nice soft ride, but was an even bigger POS than the Sportsman was, and it had 9000 less miles on it. Pretty disappointing for a Honda... so I went back to my Yamaha roots, bought a Grizzly and haven't looked back since.

I have owned several Polaris wheelers and currently have a 2000 trail boss. I like Polaris and have had nothing but good experiences with them. You would probably be fine with any of the choices. The Arctic Cat is the only one Ive heard some poor or negative comments about. I dont know if there is any truth to it or not, just hearsay.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

yeah my buddies grizzly 700 and my buddies 700 king quad both have locking diffs

i'll never buy a polaris atv because of 2 things

    1. whatever moron that thought putting the only brake lever on the WRONG/clutch side should be slapped, this is the main reason i'll never get one, dumbest idea i've ever seen on an ATV

    2. they're made in mexico:rolleyes:

can am renegade....these bikes look good and have unbelievable power especial when you put a clutch kit on them

i own a Arctic cat 650 and dont have any complaints, put it through alot of mud and muddy water and cant complain, use it for waterfowl hunting so i have to drive it through pretty deep water and its never killed or stopped on me yet, but this renegade below is the only bike that i have been on that makes me want to trade my bike for another one.

oops didnt see the price range you posted but the arctic cat 650 and the renegade will run about 8k but an arctic cat 500 might go for around 4-6k if you can talk the dealer down
and it may seem weird but the AC 500 actually has more ground clearance than the 650...at least the 2007-10 models do dont know about 11-13

my family has had many polaris scramblers over the years. my dad had his 96 scambler 400 with some mods in it since i was little, he bought it new. it finally died last year on the lake since it leaned out. just a simple hole in the piston. the polaris quads last forever imo we still have 2 others. that or id get a grizzly since i like yamaha and ive head good things about them, used to have the 700efi with a pipe and controller it did 70 topped out haha.

if ur pulling a heavily loaded trailer a lot u may want to consider a larger v twin, especialy if u have lots of steep hills to contend with. I own a 700 grizzly and my brother owns polaris 850 xp, both great bikes, both fun to ride, both dependable. There are lots of little things that one bike has that the others dont so far not one has it all. Dont worry about belt drives most all newer ones are pretty tough for the uses u described . One with a low range if it is a belt drive,or the hondas with the selectable trans will b good for u i recomend at least 500 cc for u good luck

Honda has always done well by me.
The Rincon can easily tow a 1000 pound trailer and more. All you gotta do is change the fluids when needed and that sucker will run forever.

I ride Hondas. I HIGHLY suggest a Honda if you are looking into a bike for the reliability and towing capabilities. If you get a Honda, though I would recommend the Rubicon 500. They are automatics, but offer ESP on them too. They have a solid rear axle and are very strong for a 500 with a lot of torque when in low or ESP mode. The Rincons are good, but they have an automotive style transmission and are geared very high. Do your research on the specs of and each and see if they meet your needs. Good luck! BTW check out my channel for some vids of my atv: http://www.youtube.com/user/hondarubiconowner?feature=mhee

Go with a 550 or 700 grizzly with EPS. Toyota and Yamaha are the same corp zero problem with these grizzlys.
