So wait, another question. If you don't think you have had problems, but other TW members tell you that you have but are just too stupid to know it, which way do you vote?

I’m wondering what smitty is doing right now? I’d say sitting in a dealership, but it’s a Sunday and I doubt he has a Tacoma anymore. Or maybe he does and he’s just as unhappy as he was here. I miss the guy. Atleast he kept it real

 Cheers smitty, wherever the hell your at

Good call. Or OP could add another option.

I don't think I've had any problems but I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I don't regret my purchase but don't love my truck. That would be weird.

I have my first baby on the way, my wife has already yelled at me for focusing on this website/my truck too much. Wouldn't blame him!

You wanna know 90% of the problem?

    Expectations.

Most of us have the same expectations out of this truck. It looks cool, runs pretty good, hauls and tows a decent amount, doesn't cost a lot and is reliable and durable. It fits most of us in the cabin, rides alright and can be easily customized with minor mods to make it our own. Right?

A few have had real problems and I don't want to minimize that, but most people who complain just have unreasonable expectations. In addition, they are not knowledgable enough about vehicles to even talk intelligently about the subject. Some of these topics like, gas mileage, oil change interval, brakes and acceleration are topics that people complain and argue about but in reality they should be non issues except in extreme circumstances.

Expectations, like why can't I go 80 mph after adding big tires and bumpers and get 22 mpg?
They argue about OCI and have no clue what viscosity index is.
They complain about drum brakes even though their vehicle stops just fine.
They complain the truck is too slow yet our 0-60 times are in line with every other vehicle this mass and hp.

Unreasonable expectations and there is nothing Toyota can do about that.

I post here hoping I can, if nothing else, get some of them to understand vehicles better. I get quite a few messages from guys asking questions and I am happy to take my time and answer.

I knew exactly what I was getting with this truck.

He was a whiner. He did the opposite of keeping it real... he inflated and blew problems completely out of proportion. When he was confronted with logic, he just ignored it.

You're the kind of poster I was referring to earlier. I've noticed you explain things thoughtfully and in detail and I guarantee you a lot of your responses get an, "Ohhhh! Gotcha." At least you try to inform and assist.

He definitely whined. However he did have some valuable posts. I definitely think his expectations of his Tacoma were through the roof. I mean it’s a 35k truck not an 80k Chevy that he wanted. With that said not exactly sure how his truck really was, but if I had some of the issues with the rear end that he claimed and other problems I would of been pissed too. But I also would of go rid of it. Not worth being that unhappy and hating what you drive. He obviously knew he made a mistake buying it, so he should of cut his losses short then.

Got to remember the dealers didn't build these trucks, but are the ones left having to fix them. I am tired of having the issues, but I still like my truck.

I'd like it if my truck could hover and fly. You know, like the Jetsons. Oh, and photon torpedos for the peple that are texting when the light turns green. I'll send you a PM.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
YES! Unbelievably YES! GOAL ACHIEVED haha... I am truly amazed at the civilized discussion we’re having here. We’re all on this forum because the majority chose a Tacoma, no one forced anyone’s arm to do so. So yes, some can bash, but there will always be someone unhappy with anything and everything regardless of Toyota or not. We’re not the o lot ones. Jump on any forum for any vehicle of a different make. Willing to bet it won’t be a green pasture and all rosy there either. If it is let me know, no wait, I’m actually very content with what I got because I did my research and chose it.
