Well, they are still in business, and still selling bumpers, so either they HAVE run the numbers, and the math works in their favor, or, more realistically, they are selling enough of them to make money, and don’t feel a redesign of their product is necessary just to sell more bumpers to people who want to use the stock skid plate.

For one reason or another, they feel the stock skid mounts are inferior, and since it’s kinda hard to collaborate with other manufacturers to standardize what IS an ideal mount location, they opted to sell a skid that matches their bumper with proprietary mount locations.

Or, maybe they don’t want to sell elevendy billion bumpers, or maybe their manufacturing techniques couldn’t keep pace with selling that many. Or, maybe they make enough money on their other products that they can afford to sell this at a loss. Who knows...

But honestly, do people like the stock mounts because they are ideally located for offroading, or for simplicity of buying skids from other manufacturers?

I’ve always felt that forcing a design to fit within design specs for a different intended purpose is not the best way to get the “best” product. You can usually make it work, but it’s not going to be ideal.

Wow, look at me, I sound like an All-Pro fanboi, but I actually don’t own a single item of theirs, lol.

Heir mounts reduce the approach angle otherwise they're amount of reinforcement is the same as everyone else. Just an allpro thing I guess

That's what I mean. They had a certain design they wanted (max out the approach angle), but adhering to the stock locations wouldn't quite accomplish that in their engineers' minds. So they opted for a "better" design vs. something out of convenience.

    It's definitely their "thing" lol.

Many many companies have tried proprietary widgets, and it's kind of s crapshoot as to if it works or not. Back in the 60's/70's Schwinn had this special tire size, the S-6, for their bicycles - thought it would keep business in their shops, but it actually turned people away from their bikes which were otherwise great bikes, so they went back to a normal 26" tire.

Anyhoo, just an interesting bit of what goes through an engineer's head...

    ∆ who makes that one?

I really like allpro's look but like others mentioned, I don't want only one skid option.

It's Bruteforce Fab but his is rare because Billy rarely makes first gen stuff anymore let alone full plate.

I like it. That's the only one I think I've seen and I've really studied the bumpers for 1st gens.

    Same here.

I swear there is an inverse relationship to 1st gen bumpers where good looks/desire is inverse to availability. I'm going to end up with a trail gear tube because its not a unicorn, it can be bought and installed in this dimension we call reality. Sorry, been watching a lot of PBS Space Time.

I like it a lot but the fit could definitely be improved. It’s hard to tell in the pictures but it has some odd gaps as it wraps around the front of the truck. It’s hard to fault him for it when he built it without a truck on hand to get the fit right. Other than that I think the quality is amazing.
