What zip code would this "specific location" be in? I'd bet you could find a member or 2 that would be willing to purchase property with you rather than rent.......

One place here in Sacramento was mentioned in another thread, but it looked like it was for classic American cars and hot rods. I think the Toyota owners community has enough enthusiasm to support the concept.

There's a place in Phoenix, AZ i used when I was living in an apartment to do my own installs. They rented the shop bays by the hour and supplied the basic tools and air for most jobs. There was additional fees for professional consultation with the resident mechanic or use of welding equipment (higher cost to maintain wire and shielding gas). It's a legitimate business and they have you sign insurance wavers. No beer drinking allowed.
Below is the link to their website. You can ask for pricing to get an idea what rates are required to maintain the doors open.

I've thought about this myself. Really depends on the area and how much insurance for having some people who should really not be anywhere near a garage in there

I do like the idea and loved being stationed near real military bases because I would use their lift in the auto hobby shop for rotations and various other things.

think it also depends on the scope of work I was doing. a quick tire rotation and oil change, maybe $15-20. more in depth work, I'd spend more money. Of course, now that we have our own garage and don't have to worry about making messes or pissing off landlords I don't need an actual shop as often anymore.

    The idea is cool.
Not having storage space for larger projects leaves me out. I have the spsce at home to do my projects. The lift or specialty tools kinda interesting, but the insurance i woild imagine will be tricky.
And the no drinking thing will be hard to manage with some of these guys.

    Not at the moment.

However, I did email this group to see if they would accept the likes of us.

If not, I may still go talk to someone about how they operate.

    808 ALLDAY!!

i wouldn't mind.......of course if it went over a few days then there maybe less parts on the truck than you started with

    totally kidding though.

    Thought #2

Maybe setup some kind of quarterly schedule. Figure out attendance #'s and charge accordingly. Then if things work out good increase to maybe a monthly or bi-monthly Saturday schedule and restructure payment prices per person. I would totally come to even help out and my Miller 135 Mig is portable on 110v.

    Thought #3

Is this for using someones already in business shop or starting something yourself?

Most Military Bases have shop space you can rent. I have forgotten how much it was per day but it was not much.

In this particular case, think of it as a mod day at a garage, not a space where you have unlimited, 24-hour access.
