I’m leaving for college (James Madison University) Aug 21st so I have to do a little more modding before I leave since I will be a while without my truck. I’ve deciding on switching out the bulbs behind my speedo, etc with some LEDs, but unsure of what color between blue and cool white (for either one, I’ll be able to match with my stereo since I can change the color on it whenever I want). I’m also going to switch my glovebox light, ashtray light, and maybe dome light depending on how easily I can do it, but I’m 99% sure I’ll do cool white for those.

Leave a poll answer and any comments to help persuade me towards your color preference. Thanks.

I'm going with none. I've seen enough LED conversions to make me say nope. The clusters end up with hot spots and blue hurts my eyes to look at

It's up to you but I did blue, let me tell you this is a pain in the ass to do. But the end product is rewarding. I know this is a first gen section but am sure it's the same deal.20170307_210444.jpg

I’ll just make sure I can use the dimmers and I have young eyes so I’ll probably be fine for a bit. The only their people who would be driving my truck are my brother (who’s 21) and my dad (who would probably like the lights since it would be a change from his 1999). But I’ll add an option on the poll for none. Thanks

I’m actually hoping it will be a little pita so it will give me something to fiddle with cause I find myself bored pretty often.

The hardest part was finding out which way each led goes in on because if one led is on wrong then 3 or four less won't work. And when you install them they will automatically work with your dimmer.

I’ll just make sure I check that they work before I clip everything back in. I’ve read multiple times in other threads that others have made that mistake.

Maybe it’ll be a little better for me since I’m 1/4 Vietnamese so I squint a little naturally :D. Jk but I like bright things and my radio is already pretty bright blue.

The brightness was all the way in that pic usually don't have it that high. Plus the blue is nice on the eyes of was better than the bright orange that was originally in there.

White and blue are both offensive to the eyes at night, I've had both before, but have reverted to using Amber halogen bulbs in my 4runner and leaving the Tacoma stock since it was already Amber.

I had black light leds in mine..I had to take em out fast, felt like I was taking the acid coolaid test whilst driving, very weird! I run all white diodes now, dimmed, and it looks cleaner than amber imo.

    Not the same
1st gen is just twist on bulbs
2nd & 3rd gen are Leds on the boards that require soldering

I was mainly talking about the disassembly of the dash cause heard it’s pretty tedious.

I’ve watched a few videos and read a few write ups but I’m sure it’s nothing too hard to manage, just time-consuming.

The cluster comes out faster than my stereo! Something wrong here.

Red is actually the best color for night vision. Aircraft use red for night flying
