That's the only thing I miss from my old car, the sun roof :(

If there was an affordable sunroof I'd look into it

In the middle of the desert the last thing you want entering your vehicle is more sun. I drive around with the windows up and the a/c blasting full time from April until November.

My ex had one in her car (It was called a moon roof but it slid back inside between the roof and the headliner. It didn't pop up and it was electronically controlled). I didn't care for it because i always had sun glare from it. I always closed the internal shade panel.

Have one too on my Civic Coupe. If I want to take a drive with the open air feel, I'll just drive that and not my Taco.

I know it's not a first gen, but here is a pic of my 1991 Toyota Pickup with the factory sunroof. It tilted open a lot like the rear windows of the access cab did. It was also removable but was such a pain to take out I rarely took it off. I loved it and always had it open. Never had any leaks in the rain but that thing would rattle like a bitch when it was open and you hit a bump or something.

I didn't see any photos of your truck with the roof closed......is it glass with a closeable shade?

I love sunroofs, had them on a couple of cars over the years. I like to have the light coming through the roof at all times, even at night. Plus, as long as it's not too hot or cold, I would usually open it as a non-windy alternative to opening the normal windows.

I love the ideabut when sitting in my dcab I think the majority of the roof would start in the middle of my head and go back from there. Great for the back seaters though.

In 05 I had a Tundra with a sunroof. My buddy went & bought one without it & he was pissed when I told him my payment (his was 2x, mine 4x). He went back to the dealer & got them to put one in at a discount. He never kept the truck long enough after that to see if it leaked b/c the dash now rattled like crazy & there were electrical problems & Toyota couldn't fix it so he sold it. In my opinion, try not to f with what robots have built.

Also, the BMW dealer I work for owned a Toyota store in the 80's. They were killing it with aftermarket sun roofs on cellicas & supras...til they started leaking & the class action law suit came. He said never ever again.

I drove a BMW 335 for 6 years...probably used it 6 times. Maybe there's somebody out there who is really good & can do it right but again, I just wouldn't mess with it...

Ive often kicked around the idea of iinstalling one in my truck. Every car I have owned has had a sun roof/moon roof, and has never had leaks, or suffered from wind noise. I think I use the one in my car every time I drive it.....even when it rains (At speed, rain doesnt come into the car).

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
I checked that it was too expensive. It's not that I have actually priced them, but although it would be nice, I don't know that I want one enought to pay more than $100 for, which in turn common sense tells me that I would not get a decent product for that price.

Yes, mine is glass with a sliding sun shade, which I never really use because I like the light coming in.

The way it was explained to me, is a Sunroof is body colored, while a Moon roof is glass. I have only had 1 sun roof (by this defanition), and the rest have been Moon roofs. The moon roofs slide back all the way open (electronicly), and can also stay closed, but the back can tip up.

No way. I couldnt trust someone cutting into my roof. I've never heard of aftermarket sun roofs going over well.

Synthetic oil/lubes used throughout. NGK Iridium Lazer 100K spark plugs. Rear differential breather extension modification. Toyota front skid plate, roof rack, bed mat, chrome exhaust exhaust. Runs like new!

When you say sunroof, what do you mean? A piece of glass that pops up twoinches (like the old days-waste of money) or other. I put a "moon roof" on my2003 4 door Tacoma which opened on the interior, loved it, and made it feellike it was a convertible.

I considered putting one in on my 2005 2nd generation Tacoma but in order toinstall a moon roof they would have to remove the factory installedcompass/temp read gauge/sunglass holder which I didn't want to do.

If you have it done by a REPUTABLE company that has been doing it fordealers for years it will look like and operate like a factory install. I wouldnot be concerned in any twisting or anything of that nature. They are structurallysound; must have a frame for support. Iwas comfortable with using this company because my cousin who managed manydealerships always sent vehicles there for moon roof installs. You can usuallytalk them down a few hundred dollars due to the economy, depending on where you reside. The initial quote was$1,200 but they offered to do it for $900 before I walked out the door becauseI was a prior customer. This company offers a lifetime warranty as well. Never had any laeks nor did my friend who pruchased the vehiclee from me.

If you can part with losing the few factory installed items I mentionedabove go for it. I suggest you do it sooner than later so you can get moreyears of enjoying it for the money you're spending. You don't want a sun roof or something that opensoutside; looks ridiculous and can break if you threw a rock in the air whileoff roading. Go for the moon roof! It is slick and you'll love it.

Note: This will bring down your ceiling height. I'm 5'11 and didn't evennotice it, nor did it bother me.

Answer to your question: Most Tacoma buyers are not looking for luxury;hence they would never think to install a moon roof. They prefer to blow their money onmodifications to go off roading or try to save gas which to me is a waste of money and can alterthe handling of the vehicle. Buy a quad instead! The V6 2nd generation Tacoma'shandle exceptionally well for a truck on and off the road. I have put mine tothe test for 7 years now; runs like new. Hope this helps.
