Same reason, I don't buy aftermarket wheels, bumpers, suspensions, body parts etc. I want to preserve the value of my vehicle.

I really, really want one. If it was an OEM option there'd be no thought in my mind, I'd get it. I've yet to own a car with one. The only other car I've owned that I actually could spec out also didn't have a sunroof option. Any time I borrowed my Mom's old car with one, when the ignition was on, the roof was open.

I went to the local Webasto authorized installer and it just left a bad taste in my mouth, and that place was the only one within 200 miles of me that was factory authorized. It was a case of he didn't have any documentation available, but gave me a pamphlet for another company and it was "close enough", a case of two prices (cash and credit...which I get, but still doesn't sit well) and then when I asked about leakage it was "well I'll match your factory bumper to bumper."

Really? Because if I'm going to let you cut a hole in my roof, I want confirmation from you that it will never leak and you will stand behind your work. Am I crazy?

I had an aftermarket sunroof on my old Honda. It was done by a reputable, authorized dealer. It worked for about 6 years. Then, one day, it wouldn't close. Of course, that was the weekend we had record rainfall and no garage. It cost me $100 to close it permanently from the same dealer that installed it. That pissed me off to no end.

On the upside, before it broke it never leaked.

Never leak? How can he really make such a promise? He's the installer, not the manufacturer. Besides, nothing it ever 100% leak-proof. Even boats leak eventually. All he can possibly do is fix problems as they occur. Of course, for a price just like everything else (which is fair - beyond the warranty, your truck, house, computer, or whatever repairs aren't free).

I completely understand saying it won't ever leak is an empty promise.

However, the point I was getting at was that he wasn't doing a great job selling me on the product. It was more of a "I can match a warranty...good enough, kid?" attitude. I wanted him to be like, if you ever have problems we will make things right. I know it's just a sales pitch and an empty promise, but with such a lax attitude it really doesn't give me any confidence that any/all work performed is of any level of quality.

5200 is so ridiculously gnarly. You will never be able to remove it. Use 4000, its really strong, uv resistant and removable if you really work at it.

it would be awesome to have that extra light... up here in Alaska we're always chasing daylight. I think they'd charge me $200 just for the shipping up here though! ...maybe a mod for one of those light tunnels :) I'm MUCH rather have a sunroof in my topper. A little more ventilation back there is always needed.

leaks and i wouldnt use it anyway. used to have an accord with a factory one and i glued the damn thing shut cause it kept leaking. When i had my acura integra i probably opened the sunroof in that one less than 10 times in the 3 years i owned it.

DAFUQ? Please explain how an item that can be removed with six lug nuts in under 30 seconds can possibly reduce the value of a vehicle in any way.

While I really do enjoy sunroofs, when it comes to off-roading and such, I like the fact that I don't have another piece of glass that can shatter, or break and let debris and such inside if I roll. I always say that when doing serious off-roading, it is not a matter of IF you roll your truck, but WHEN you roll it.

If done tastefully and not overboard certain mods can increase the value. Sold my previous truck for more than high kbb.
