Well, it didn’t. It ended up getting a crack also.

Went with the pilkington glass from a local installer. Holding up great and much quieter than the Safelite.

Good to know.. crazy I noticed a 1/2” straight line crack on my windshield today barely could see a chip in it. I’m googling window crack repair kits and 10 minutes later loud pop and my crack grows 12 inches while in park. I have Allstate and they have a thing with Safelite..We’ll see

My windshield also has a serious crack. It seems that even the smallest of debris, in our case was a small piece of gravel that started it. As you can see the thickness of this windshield is very thin so not much hope it will hold up against anything
However there is something new coming to the market, Gorilla Glass for autos. It appears that Jeep will be using it as an option on their new JL. I was going to pursue it a little further to see if it will be available for any vehicle in the near future. At least would be great to find someone who is making a decent piece of glass for the Tacoma.
    Cheers

I have replaced three windshields in my 15 Yukon in one month. It happens. If something hits the windshield, depending on what it is and where it hits, it will crack. It doesn't take much to crack a windshield around the edges when you are on the highway.

I would never use Safelite. I remember one person on here had like $3,000.00 in damage to his truck and had to replace the headliner by the time Safelite was done. Find a good, small, independent installer in your area that has high standards and you know who the installer will be. I would not want Safelite sending some new guy out to practice on my vehicle. There is a good chance that is what you will get.

Holy crap... that is the EXACT crack my windshield had! I had to wait a long time to get it fixed because the trucks were so new at the time and it eventually traveled all around the windshield to make sort of a rectangle.

Last week a rock hit my windshield dead center while driving home from work and left a small chip. I got home and took a closer look, and it didn't look too bad, so I planned to get it repaired the next day. I came out to my driveway a couple hours later, and the chip had become a ~15" horizontal crack.

The safelite quote I got to replace the windshield was $475. I ended up going with Windshield Hub for around $100 cheaper. The installer put a tiny scratch in my dash, but other than that, the install seems okay. I'm waiting for a good rain to confirm there aren't any leaks.

My windshield cracked from a small rock at 25K miles - i ended up going with an aftermarket windshield from a local shop for about 400 - same go pro mount and a lifetime leak warranty. I asked the dealership and they said they use a third party to replace windshields anyways.

Its probably the curing of the adhesive pre-stressing the glass.
