    That’s cause they’re Fords haha

I’m sure Toyota could make boosted trucks just as reliable as their current ones. The engines may be more sensitive to regular maintenance, but I think most of us on here take care of our trucks

I believe that’s why Toyota hasn’t done it. They are able to maintain their reputation because they don’t blindly jump into something without knowing if it will work well or not.

4x4 also makes a difference. My truck will usually get 21-23 at 70 MPH in the summer. I also use cruise control pretty religiously.

The early ones were not. The later ones are much more reliable. If they were terrible, Ford wouldn't keep putting effort into them and Toyota (among others) certainly wouldn't be implementing their own versions.

With all due respect I don’t think blindly jumping into something was ever part of the equation. They had reliable boosted Supras in the 80s and 90s. And probably other factory boosted vehicles, though I’m not that familiar with Toyota’s history.

And when I wrote more sensitive to maintenance I was really just referring to the fact that with boosted cars you just have to be a little more strict with routine oil changes as deteriorated oil is the bane to turbine shafts.

I have a 2021 4WD SR with 5,500 miles on it and can get 30 MPG on the freeway if not going uphill and staying at 60 mpg. If I'm cruising along 70 and/or going up a slight grade it's still in the mid 20's. As long as I stay in overdrive I get good mileage.

I’d be happy with that. I have to test what I get at 70 mph cruise control on

Exactly like rear disc brakes, I’ve never gotten into an accident from the inability to stop in my Tacoma, and I would say the majority of you can say the same.

There is a big difference in Toyota making turbo charged sports cars versus trucks that are known for one thing, reliability. I own a factory turbo MR2, so obviously I know Toyota has done it before.

Ford had a boosted turbo 4 cyl in 1979. Mustang Official Pace Car.

Toyota reliability.. both my 2000 and 2006 Toyota 4 banger standard cabs had over 200,000 miles. The 06 was the best vehicle I've ever owned for reliability and minimal failures.. just routine maintenance.. now if the frames would have lasted with the salt treatment I'd still own the 06. Toyota bought back the 2000 for 150% Kelly Blue Book retail. that was close to $12K back in 2007 with over 200,000 miles that was only $18K new. Neither were as luxurious as the 2021 and they both were like little mountain gates offroad.

I get over 25 mpg when going 50-60.

I get around 23-25 mpg when going 65-70.

I get around 20-21 mpg when going 80.

These are summer fuel highway mpgs on a stock 2019 DCSB V6 AT Sport (with front spoiler intact).

I also have the latest ECU TSB programmed and drive always in D.

With no wind whatsoever and flat highway I get 18 mpg at 80 mph (cc on). With wind I was getting 16 mpg. And I’m in Miami so should be summer fuel and definitely high temps here. Seems like I got shit luck or you have good luck

I keep the "AVG MPG" on my center screen, below the digital speedo, never seen higher than 18MPG and typically sits some fraction between 16-17 (Bone Stock '20 TRD OR 4x4)

Is your MR2 generally less reliable than your truck(s)?

I just got over 400 miles per tank with 285s on a stock pro. Sc is flat and I keep the rpms under 2k as much as possible and cruise around 60 mph to work one way at 42 miles. I still get 20-22mpg with 285s. With 265s I was getting 450 miles a tank on average over the last 3 years.

I never said turbocharging a vehicle makes them less reliable, simply states I believe that’s why Toyota isn’t doing it. Plus, my MR2’s engine is in boxes so I don’t think it’s a good example for reliability.
