For what its worth, I've had 4 third gens - in Texas where we are routinely doing 85mph+, i dont think I've ever consistently averaged better than 18mpg - 16mpg is more like it. M/T vs. A/T has had minimal effect on overall mileage. Sure i can get 20 if I'm doing 60mph on a flat road... but that ain't Texas.

is that with stock tires and no lift?

Did you prefer the manual over the auto at the 85+ speeds?

Almost as nice as "reasonable and prudent" of the early 90s in Montana with no speed limit except at night.

I’m the guy in the right lane on 285s that’s going 60-65 that you routinely pass. Just minding my own gettin 20-22 mpg while you fly by get 16 mpg....it’s all relative though. As long as you’re happy that’s all that matters bro!

We must be from different parts of Texas. I can assure you nearly anywhere I go the cruise is set on 70-75, but 85+?? I have a radar detector and I won’t even go that fast for a long period of time. There are exceptions of course, but I definitely can’t say that’s my average speed....

I'm 1k miles into my '21 DCSB MT. Averaging 13.93 mpg so far. I like to hang around 3k-ish rpm in 2nd and 3rd in the city. Paying for it! Upsized tires slight to 265/70/17. I've accounted for the 3.3% ODO difference.

I struggle to get 300 miles per tank. I have a heavy foot for sure, if I wasn’t restraining myself I’d be getting 250 also

    What really? How?

I got 513 km last time and had a bit less than quarter left, about 60% hwy. Put in about 60 litres to fill the tank.

City driving. I get 12.5-13.5 L/100km all day long.

    265/70/17 C load KO2s.

That’s likely about what I’m getting now, but my tires are quite a bit larger than yours and I’ve committed the atrocious sin of running large tires without regearing my truck.

That's great. It seems to me that for some reason various trucks get different MPG.

Bone stock in every condition and every style of driving. There are trucks that just don’t come anywhere near the spec and what others get. I have no desire to hash it out with anyone again. It’s just reality and I’m not the only one.

Roughly about 417 miles to this tank. 21mpg. Love my 285s. I just keep the rpm under 2k as much as possible and cruise 60-65mph. I drive about 40 miles one way to work so it’s nice only filling up once a week.

I've had two very different commutes to work since having my original 2017. One would average 20 mpg+ and the commute I currently have is more city and 16-18 mpg depending on the time of year. Since getting my 2021, I only have experience with the second more city like commute. Have just shy of 2k miles on it today and it is getting damn close to what my 2017 was getting. I expect by the time I hit 5 of 10k miles following a little break in the MPG will be the same or better. A lot of it is time of year and some break in time for those with new trucks.

FWIW both trucks are Off Roads with 265/70/16 Falken Wildpeaks (yes I switched tires as soon as I got the 2021). No other changes to stock.

Which is the issue I brought up, you can’t compare vehicles being driven by different people, on different roads, at different times, so on.

Winter time definitely kills the gas mileage. Especially for my short commute. I can't even get 150 miles on half a tank. Summer time I will have no problems getting 175 miles from half a tank.

Winter definitely has an effect on my mileage also. On short trips under 5 miles my truck barely gets up to normal running temps. Fuel economy gets a lot better after that. Contacted service about the lengthy warmup of this truck during winter, and that the temp gauge drops to a 1/3 when stopped once the engine is fully up to temp yet reads midway when up to speed...i got a rather strange answer that some v6 tacoma's act this way, and some do not. When questioned the reason, he couldn't answer only that its nothing to worry about. Before he hung up he said to make a note of it to look at during my next toyotacare visit.
