I still get 400 plus miles to a tank on 285s with an un corrected speedo. Was average 22-24 mpg with 265s now it’s 20-22 with 285s. Super flat where I live and I drive like a grand daddy.

I only get 285 miles a tank on stock tires and rims. Stock everything! So not even close to that. But I drive like a driver would to keep up with the flow of traffic.

How cold of temps have you been driving in and what is your average trip length? Do you live in the part of the country that has snow on the ground?

I'm in lower Michigan, pretty abnormal winter but temps were near -10 to 20° for a week or two, but now it's been 40 the last few days. Average trip is about 20 miles so far. Might be taking a trip to Florida in three weeks. That'll be the longest so far. 2400 miles for that trip when it comes.

Why not drive it in S5 all the time and keep the truck? Mine is in S5 about 95% of the time.

You are right about the idling. I have been remotely starting my vehicle every day at least once. I noticed that the 10-20 minutes of running the vehicle while not in motion does affect the mileage. I had to take my daughter to a doctor's appointment. I sat in the truck for over an hour with it running (I wasn't permitted in the doctor's office and it was cold and I was bored, so I had the radio on). My miles to empty went down 8 miles just sitting there.

I guess to each their own. I've only used S5 to pull my 5x10 utility trails and snowmobile in it...no ECT... its perfect. With ECT on the truck feels in low gear all the time and gets really bad fuel economy. Otherwise when just driving i use the D mode, and all is good. Truck still has plenty of response at 1600 rpm at 60 mph in 6th. I can't figure why anyone would use the S, or ECT modes for just normal operation.

I use S mode because I get way better fuel mileage with it. If it's in automatic I only get 12-14.

should've bought a prius. ;) On a serious note a F150 Hybrid may be in my future, not just for MPG but many other reasons. Honestly cant believe Toyota doesnt have a Tacoma Hybrid by now?? My sister in law just got a Hylander Hybrid 4wd and loves it. 35mpg across the board. It'll get a bit better once you get some miles on it.

Just doesn't sound like the same auto v6 tacoma truck. If i use the S modes i'm sure to get worse economy unless towing. Usually get 23-24 mpg in the summer, and 19.5-20 in the winter now.

My brother said the same. Loves his hybrid rave4...would of bought a smaller more compact hybrid tacoma instead if they built one.

I use S5 because it keeps my truck from shifting as often. I've driven it this way for 3 years and (to me) it's just about perfect.

I get the same exact mileages on my truck as well. Using S mode or ECT reduces my mileage substantially. However, I should note that I have the latest engine/trans TCB update which greatly improved the driveability in D.

Buddy of mine that recently took his lift, and larger tires away had that tsb done on his 2019 trd also. He's a happy camper now. Can't believe its the same truck he's been putting up with for the last 2 years. When i picked up my new truck in boston the dealer had already preformed the lasted tsb your mention, so i've been driving my truck from the get-go with it.

Today I’d been feeling disappointed with the fuel mileage on my 2021 TRD Off-Road DCLB. In the past two months of owning it, somehow the settings were on imperial gallon and not US gallon, making me believe I was getting 18-20 mpg. Turns out I’ve really been getting 15-16.5 mpg.

But you guys bring up good points and have for the most part reassured me that I made a good purchase.

How many miles per tank are you getting? Unless you’re getting almost 400 miles per tank your computer is probably also set to imperial gallons which would indicate about 20-25% better “mpg”

Im getting about 16.5 doing mix of city and highway on my 265/75 SL load. Usually I don't rev over 2.3-2.5. Makes me want a re gear as well because of course it shifts like a dog too. But I'm due for a TSB update as well I believe.

Tried a short 50 mile round trip this morning in S5 that i usually take...According to the dash readout i was about a 1 3/4 mpg worse than in The D mode. Seems anything else than in the D mode is worse.

I am only getting about 275 miles to a tank! Which sucks, I fill up twice a week, when I had a diesel truck that was a 1500 I filled up ever other week doing the same kind of driving.
