Just wait till you install larger tires. I’m getting around 10-12 MPG currently :woot:

I wanted to do that but doubt I will now. I don’t do hardcore enough off-roading to justify <14 mpg

I was only getting around 16-18MPG stock. I went from a 265/65/17 (stock for my truck) to a 265/70/17 and the gas mileage difference was essentially nothing and it made the truck look much better. Once you starting jumping up to 285’s or bigger is when it kills your fuel efficiency.

But there should be a reasonable expectation they fairly readily achieve the rated mileage. What’s the point of having the rating there if it’s total dog crap compared to the rated number, especially for the average driver who’s not driving hell bent for breakfast?

I bought my truck when the third Gen first came out. The roads I travel on are unforgiving to say the least. Many reported to be getting the claimed fuel efficiency by Toyota. So take my mileage with a grain of salt. It’s also been my experience that I don’t get anywhere near what any brand claims, perhaps for you that’s only a Toyota issue, not sure.

I’ll even give claim to being an exception, to a point. I travel mostly northern Oklahoma roads. Most are crap, though some have improved. 65 mph speed limits except the county roads, which are 55. Couple stretches with 70. I first started self employment with an 05 Ranger. 4.0, 4x4, 5 speed. Rated mileage 14/17. I averaged 19.5 over about 50k in that pickup. Traded to an 11 xcab Silverado Z71, 5.3. Rated 15/21 mileage. With all my crap, curb weight of 7200. Not sure what it was empty, but when I got it as empty as possible to trade, it was 5900. I hand calculated all the 232k I put on it of the 260k it had when I traded. It could do 20-21 when not fighting a headwind on a flat stretch of road with no slow downs (aka the interstate) and doing 70-75. But these highways? Pffft. 16-16.5, maybe 17, was probably more the overall average.

That said, my Tacoma is rated, what? 17/20? If it’ll do 18-19, I’ll be more than stoked because it’s got a load for it’s size. Weighs in at 5500 now, still don’t have the topper yet, or quite all my stuff. I wish I knew what it weighed when I picked it up with nothing in it.

I get you. I am happy if I get 19mpg as well, although I actually got 22.2 on a trip this morning, but that is an a anomaly.

When my truck was stock I had a job that was around 60-70 miles from my house. Clock in time was 5:00. I would get in my truck, and set the cruise at 75, that combined with lots of hills made my fuel mileage what it was. I will say if me and the wife went to Dallas or anywhere similar with “real” roads, it’s average even at 75-80 was pretty good in my opinion.

I totally agree, coming from a Camaro SS I thought I would get better mileage, heck, even our 2019 4x4 Tahoe gets better mileage than this truck. Maybe I am too heavy on the pedal, but my driving has become more conservative with this truck since I know I don't have the power of my old vehicle.

I would agree with this completely. I’ll start to consider the numbers I’m getting to be pretty reliable by the time we get to about 10k.

Here are mine so far. Missed one fill-up in the tracking so the mileage is higher now, but this is what I get.

Heavy foot city driving. Rarely on the freeway. The app default is 50/50 so ignore the pie chart. I’m too lazy to change the setting at each fuelup. :D

I normally fill up long before E so I don’t really have solid data on your question.

I’m currently only tracking city mpg and it is what I expected.

If you don’t mind you should verify the correct type of gallon is being used in your settings to calculate if you haven’t already don’t so

Stock truck. 20.5 mpg consistently from one-mile light to light 23 mile commute on 40-45 mph roads in Phoenix. Get about 18.5 at 75-80 steady freeway.

Feel free to verify it yourself. It’s the Fuelly app. I am US based and it is set as such.
