Hi!! Thanks for the add. I recently bought a 2017 TRD Off-Road and have been seeing gas mileage lower then what I should be getting for both highway and city. I'm driving it like a granny for now since it's like 14 mpg with only 550 miles on the truck. Is this normal for a new truck and when will this change? After a certain amount of miles?

Also, I just had my truck truck in for the TSBs 0053 and 0077-16 but both are already programed correctly.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

I'm averaging 16mpg, and have had it for over a year now. My buddy just got a TRD Pro Tundra and is getting better mileage than me.

I have 300ish miles on mine and got 20.6 MPG on the way home yesterday, mixed driving. It says 19MPG on the tank so far.

FWIW...I think it drive my Taco like a granny and I never see more than 16mpg.

My wife took the truck for a few days last week and when I got it back in was shocked to see she was averaging over 20mpg!

    It's alllllll about driving style

Maybe you aren't driving it as granny-like as you think. Also it depends on the speed limit, hills, etc. If the area you're in has a low speed limit, and/or lots of hills, your mileage likely won't be so hot.

On surface/city streets, I routinely get 20-23mpg, even hitting almost every light red, as long as the speed limit is around 45mph.

I've also seen that giving it a little more juice to get up to speed actually HELPS mpg. Apparently driving like granny actually makes it worse. But I havent tested this, just from what I read here maybe a week ago.

So I do better than my wife on mpg but she likes to let her car idle in the morning for 15mins or so. You can watch the mpg meter run down.

Most likely, it is how you drive it.

Use the MPG gauge and play a little game to change your driving habits to get the maximum amount of blue mpg bar while driving. You will see how your driving habits effect mpgs.

Break-in period is a fallacy. Just as one example: my 2016 has over 22k miles and over a year of ownership, no discernable improvement since delivery. No significant/remarkable improvement in fuel economy due to break-in should be expected on modern vehicles.

Mine is quicksand color bar o_O

The biggest enemy of MPG's is not the gas pedal it's the brake pedal. Coast more to stops and turns.

Speeding up to brake is just wasted energy.

Not in my experience. Both my work trucks started getting better (2-4 mpgs) after about 10k miles. Hoping my Taco follows a similar pattern. I'm only getting 16-19 right now depending on if I'm driving down to work or up to home.

My DCLB OR is better for sure since its getting broken in. Im right at 7800 miles and typically get 18-18.5 mpg with some city and mostly 75 mpg on gentry rolling terrain with the occasional big hill using cruise controll.

On a couple trips down highways with mostly 60 MPG speed limits i got 21-22 for the 50 mile loops. The truck does shift a lot when using cruise. I hated it at first but am used to it now. The power band for these is 3k +. I think they designed it to get the best mileage possible on flat roads.

Mine can do slightly better (18.5-19) doing 70ish not using cruise but i rarely try. Not using cruise definatly takes away the bulk of gear hunting. The problem with cruise is it wont let the truck slow down at all going up a hill so it basiclly floors it.

I hated it at first but TBH it gets better over time. The more i drive mine the more i like it. I just stopped worrying about it.

Mine is probably the worst possible combination stock tacoma for MPG. Its gone from 15 to 18 in 7800 miles. I can live with 18-18.5 for a DCLB TRD off road 4x4.

I've noticed this too. It works best to get out of the first two gears as fast as possible.
