I really liked the Hondo Un-Holey mount both in terms of aesthetics and the obvious quality. However the cost was a bit high for me and I didn't like the idea of giving up the functionality of my vent. So I made something that approximates the functionality at a fraction of the cost and doesn't get in the way of the vent. The TechMatte magnetic mount (https://goo.gl/hvg46h) has an ~17mm ball which pairs with this Garmin mounting gear (https://goo.gl/BUXNck). I am only using the short double ball and the double-socket connectors.

The position of the phone is perfect. The only downside is a small bit of bouncing. I am also unsure of whether the adhesive will hold up in the long term with the weight on the lever arm.

    Total cost $20.

I have one of these too, and my problem was that when mounted on the stereo bezel, it didn't tip forward far enough. Also, the ball on the magic mount is smaller and isn't compatible with the Garmin mounting hardware.

You 'glue' the little metal plate on the back of your instrument. I put mine on the case and mounted the base on the top of the bezel. Worked great for me.

I think you’re misunderstanding the problem I had and found a workaround for. Glad the magic mount worked out for you.

That’s interesting, I have them in multiple vehicles and have not had this problem. Maybe I just have a small phone and drive slow.
