Ok, so I now our trucks do not get the best millage--- but I just got the worst millage I have ever had and looking for suggestions.

2014 DCSB 4x4 Sport 4.0l. I have been getting 16-16.8 mpg consistently since I bought the truck in August. It is totally stock, minus the roof rack, bug deflector and window deflectors. Based on my old cars I anticipate 2mpg less than a naked truck. I am not complaining about the millage as I had a built WRX that took premium and it was a gas hog.

I drive about 3 hours a day mixed traffic for work. I change the oil mobil 1 synthetic every 5K religiously. I took at 1000 road trip and the millage was normal 300 per tank.

My last tank was 250 with the needle buried in the light. I can see a little loss with the winter gas we get here in MD as it always happens, but is 2 mpg standard for our trucks in cold weather?

I am very anal about my cars/trucks and keep them a very, very long time and just wondering if I am missing something or if this sounds correct.

    Thank you again,
    Todd

    Check ur tire psi?
    Due for plugs?
I dunno, that sounds nutty to me.
ive NEVER had gas go that fast, and i can be pretty hard on it.

    Exhaust smell strange?

Btw, the thing keeping the fuel pump cool is..... fuel. id personally suggest not going very low. I have only gone till the light 2 times in 9yrs of ownership.
I normally fill at 1/4 of a tank.

You dont wanna drop the tank to replace the pump ifnu dont have to.

I feel like I see a 1-2mpg loss with winter gas, too, and it's amazing how just a few extra short in-town trips can bring down my average mpgs per tank. My last tank we particularly bad, too. Maybe MD switched to winter gas and it takes the Taco's computer a tank or so to acclimate to it?

Spend a little time researching "hyper-milers". Driving style will have a great deal of effect on mileage.

So does 10,000 other things...ie tire pressure, type/size of tires, state of engine tune, etc.

I'm in a 2011 TRD OR DCSB with 4.0/auto, 3" lift, 265/75/16 Goodyear Duratrac (load range C) 90% of my driving is highway with speeds up to 70mph. I average between 19.5 and 21.5, depending on what roads and what speeds I drive. Point is, I get decent mileage (for a Tacoma) Others get far less in same conditions. Major difference is I drive like a grampa when I can....!

Thanks again everyone. Not trying to avoid searches or beat a dead horse.
There are tons of post out there about gas, and they do not reflect the experience and drop in mileage I got on the last tank. Truck has 30k on it, exhaust smell is normal, pulls fine, has the Tacoma knock, so that is why I was asking if winter fuel impacts our trucks that badly.

I get 18-19 in the summer, mostly rural highway and stop and go. In the winter that drops to 16-17, though if it's really cold and I let the truck warm up at all that number goes down. I have seen as low as 12 on a tank by doing that.

On relatively flat highway in the summer I can squeeze 21-22 out of it. Best ever was just under 24 on a tank, but I've never been able to repeat that.

That's on the largest/heaviest Tacoma config available with a 2" lift and 1" larger A/T tires in the summer and a size roughly equivalent to stock in the winter. Truck weighs about 300 lbs more than stock with my changed/added components and the tools I keep in it all the time.

i have a 2009 dclb trd sport. it has 265/70/17 k02's, 17x9 rims, a few inches of lift, wheel spacers, and mbrp dual exhaust. I drive about 30 miles a day with about 18-20 of that being highway. I normally drive about 75 mph on highway, and i accelerate quickly off the highway. My light turned on at 266 miles today. I got gas at about 280 miles and it took 18.2 gallons of gas to fill it. that puts me right around 15.5 mpg average. with the way i drive, ill take it! when i drive like a grandpa, i was able to get almost 17 out of it. when that light comes on, you still have 4 gallons of gas left, atleast i always do

I saw a similar loss each winter with my 08 DCLB. Now I am seeing it with the new tundra as well. I did have to add air to tires due to looks of pressure from a lower ambient air temperature, so that helped some.

With a 5"/2" lift and 285 e load tires and practically all around town driving... I'm at a solid 14mpg. And that's keeping rpms under 2000 at all times...:angrygirl:

Yeah, in the almost 3 years I've owned my truck, I can say for sure the gas mileage SUCKS. No getting around it. I know it's a truck. I'm not looking for great gas mileage, but jiminy fuckin' Christmas... 16-18 mpg from a 6 cyl? 13 when I tow.

It blows. Toyota needs to address it. Bigger trucks with bigger engines do better.

    i'll be that guy:

you relying on the gas gauge or are you actually doing the math when you fill the tank up until the gas fill handle clicks and tells you it is full?

I wish I got that kind of fuel mileage. I'm lucky to get 14 on the highway.
