I've read a few threads on burnt valves. But, if I were to rank it, I would say that super white paint flaking posts far exceed the number of burnt valves posts.

I wouldn't consider it as big of an issue as your friend makes it out to be.

I'm waiting for you to post some facts. What you say about your small town is statistically unlikely. No feelings on my part, I just think your full of it.

I agree there are more prevalent issues.

I'd be pissed to see my hood laying upside down on my tonneau cover, but observation #1 is that the middle cylinder (I've no idea of the numbering) exhaust valves were not sealing at all- this causes a myriad of issues, not least of which is a misfire / loss of power. In worst case scenarios: Exh valves not seating properly cause local overheating - the seat transfers the heat from the valve face to the head; if it does not seal, that cylinder overheats and is subsequently prone to detonate, thus dropping the seat into the cylinder. Ashtray.

Sorry for your trouble- as an assembler of race engines nasty and tuned to the razor's edge for 25 years, all engines have issues- some more than others.

You got the short straw, it sucks, but it was covered. There have been no reports of it happening a second time to the same engine. Admittedly, there are reports of minor issues from carelessness reinstalling the engine. Only you can decide if want to keep it or not.

Not defending the 2GR or the 3rd gen. I don’t own one. But it's not so much the engine or the transmission.....but rather Toyota's insistence on tuning towards improved efficiency.....good or bad....pick your side.

What about that 3.6L "car" engine in the Colorado/Canyon or that 2.3 "car" engine in the Ranger?

    It's what manufacturers do.

Op, trade it in and move on.

Let us know how the Ford 150 goes after 30k?

Sucks you got a lemon ... but I wouldn’t say all Tacoma are bad otherwise Toyota would of issued a recall on the engines to correct the problem . The issue seems to be isolated maybe not assembled correctly at the plant. Best of luck on the ford .

    F150! Don’t do it!

But seriously.... I know from personal experience how bad Ram dealers can be. But, even when you stumble across a great dealer (as I did) their hands are often tied by FCA corporate and their CS is complete garbage.

Traded the Taco today. I will report back accurately. Can't compare these two trucks as they are not in competing markets but this truck will be better for what I use my truck for. I am pleased to be able to get a locking rear diff on a pretty basic XL model. IMG_1342.jpg

My boss has one, maybe couple yrs old. It's been back to the dealership 3 times for various recalls. Not sure what though.

    This thread has it all:

    1. My truck had an issue, that means all of the other 2 million tacomas also have this issue and suck!
    2. Muh buddy is a Toyota mechanic
    3. I'm looking at a complex forced induction motor for a source of reliability

I didn't read the whole thread, was 40k truck mentioned?

I'm used to that. My tacoma had several recalls and other issues I had to take it back for, then the major problem. I guess all brands have issues.

If you don't trust the truck sell it and get another one...anything can have issues...if you have a lot of the same issue in your little town with the same truck....I would probably look into where all the people in your little town are getting gas....that sounds like a likely culprit if a bunch of people are having issues with the same truck and engine in the same little town.....or...have your dealer look at the batch of trucks he received......

Unless the dealer is to blame... Nah, that can't be.
