I want to be able to lock my tailgate. I found the pop and lock and it looks easy enough to install except for the wiring on the inside of the door. Has anyone installed this before and could you give me pointers on the wire set up? Thanks

Are you talking about the power lock version? Because the non power version does not have any hassles with wiring. Pretty much plug and play.

Yes this is the power lock version that you can use with your remote/alarm. I've seen Youtube videos on how to install it but am uncertain if the wiring is the same for a 2015 as these videos were for 2012 or later.

Ahhhhhhhh no clue on that but someone will chime in. I believe someone on here actually made a better reinforced bracket for it as well

I did the install on a 2013. The youtube vid did specify it was for a 2013. My bet is if you pop the pillar and look at the wiring it will be the same. I would do that before buying and installing and finding out the wires are different. The install was fairly easy. The hardest part was cutting the electrical tape to splice into the wires for the remote.

I would try to run the wire under the cab. There are a lot of plugs under the cab near the rear door pillar you could access instead of going through the firewall. For me the hardest part was running the wire in a concealed location from the tail to the cab. Yes wiring is the same on a 2015. I did it on my 2015 DCSB Tacoma.

    Alvin,
I just checked the wiring and yes it is the same! I would rather run the wires through the rear door. I will have to look at the location as i am not sure right now. Thanks for the help!

I just installed mine yesterday on my 2015DC using these instructions.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/pop-lock-pl8521-install-with-new-bracket.348117/

Only a couple discrepancies I had with the instructions.
    1. Running the cable in with the backup camera wires. So I ended up drilling a small hole in the plastic piece that holds the camera cables. One in the tailgate plastic and another in the plastic attached to the body. Then run the wires along the backup camera wires and zip tie it a couple times.

    2. One thing that he didn't note was the wire colors in the harness. Look for the blue/black and the blue/red(kind of pink) wires.

    3. The boot under the seat already has a wire running through it so I just made a small incision on the boot closest to the door and put the wires in.

The biggest pain was running the wire down the body. But that was more my meatloaf fingers. Just zip tie to the wires already travelling down the rail. Hopefully this helps you.

Not sure what you mean by running the wires thru the rear door. I ran the wires thru a rubber grommet under the front passenger seat, hide them under the door sill, then tap into the passenger door lock wire behind the kick panel on the passenger side. The intent for wiring it to the passenger door lock is to minimize the number of cycles the mechanism has to go thru everytime you press your remote.

I bought my kit from Amazon.

Oh yeah, be sure to unhook the battery before cutting, prying or splicing wires. You don't want to accidentally set off the airbags. :)

l know this post is old but I have spent hours trying to find the right wires for door unlock/lock to finish my powerlock tailgate lock install. Their directions are horrible... This video showed to use the B pillar wires which is an order of magnitude easier. thanks.

I just installed the PowerLock LK410, once this thread showed me the best way to connect to the door lock/unlock motor wires (In the driver-side B Pillar) the install was ok. I'm happy with the lock and it seems pretty sturdy. The instructions are crap. Follow all but the wiring in the driver kick panel for door lock/unlock
