The pictures from this write-up are from the passenger side kick plate. There should be similar colored wires somewhere on the driver's side too but can't say for sure where they are located.

Yeah the drivers side has 5 times as many wires as the passenger side, and there is only one set of the correctly colored wires on the passenger side.

funny thing is that there on the passenger side, the wires are less but the colors are not at all the same.

if anyone can tell me which wires i need to hook this up to for a taco 2014 access cab that would be awesome.

I think the wires are different from the double cab to the access cab. I think i'll need to get one of those wire sensor things to see which one fires off when I press the lock/unlock on my fob. Thanks though.

Nice write up. I will be doing this to my 09 DCSB once I decide on a locking bed cover. Good to know it works with the backup camera.

Many thanks to the OP for this post, very straightforward & I concur with the use of the wire clips from Radio Shack. Took me little over 75 mins from start to finish following this post. 5 mins of that was spent looking for a 10mm socket. Grrr. Thanks!

Just installed mine. Wished I'd read further and used the back up camera sleeve. Also,
mine didn't come with the split sleeve cover. I think I'm going to buy some and re-install.

Did my install this afternoon. Took about 1 hr 15 min. that includes a bit of running around for stuff too.
    Recommendations for the next installer:
    - this tutorial is great! Read it first.
    - once you have the bolt in place at the tailgate, start running the wire from the front. You are going to notice that you have a lot of wire left over. I wish that I hadn't messed around with the shorter wire first. I wasted time there.
    - the rubber plug that the OP talks about is a great wire catch. I am going to put a little silicone in there next.
    - Since you have the tailgate apart, lube it up.

Overall this was an easy install. I think if someone really wanted to get in, they could. It does make it more of an obstacle to get to the end result, but so does glass.

Money well spent. I feel better knowing that I have it in my truck.

My 07 DCLB TRD Sport never locked the doors after opening them with the key fob, now after installing the PL8521 the truck automatically relocks on its own a little while after opening it. I really do not like this feature as I have owned the truck for 7 years and am not used to this function as I am afraid that I will lock myself out. Does anyone have a fix for this? I am pretty sure I did the wiring right because it locks and unlocks the drivers side with one push and unlocks all doors and tailgate when the fob twice. Oh and by the way I installed this on the passenger side to the blue/pink and blue /black..

    More than I can afford
Is it relocking after opening a door or just the tailgate?

The truck is supposed to not relock once a door is open. I think it gets that signal from the door pins. Remote tailgate locks (and the one on my camper shell) do not trigger that, causing the truck to relock after a minute.

You may not have ever noticed your truck relocks before since you never had a reason to unlock the doors without opening them.
Or something really weird is going on.

Unlock your doors with remote, do nothing, truck will relock doors
Unlock your doors with remote, open tailgate, truck will relock
Unlock your doors with remote, open a door, truck should not relock.

I make it a point to put my keys back in my pocket if I hit the remote to unlock my shell, dont want to wind up with my keys locked in there.

Richie Rich makes a good point. It does sound like the natural relock feature from not physically opening a door in time before it relocks on you. It doesn't know you opened the tailgate.

Richie Rich is correct, the truck will not relock if door is opened and closed. It will relock if tailgate is opened and closed and if fob is pressed to open but no door is opened it will relock automatically after one min or so..

Thanks for all of the info in this thread! I'm about to order mine and have the same fear as many about the solenoid failing in the locked position and me being unable to get in if the tonneau and locked tailgate do their jobs. I need to unlock the passenger doors almost every time I get in my truck so I will be operating this a lot more than those of you that only unlock the driver door most of the time. Anyone know if this can be just wired up to a switch that I could flip when I want to unlock my tailgate? I assume so since a lot of people have mentioned you could activate it with a 9V battery. I don't know very much about electrical and/or how these work so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
