Pop n lock info needed

    I have the powered one on my truck (Pop & Lock
    $122 PL8521 Pop & Lock – Power Tailgate Lock for Toyota Tacoma, Fits Models 2005 to 2015 (PL8521)
    PL8521 Power Tailgate Lock). Install was very easy and the convenience of having a power lock is very nice. Plus, you keep all your original hardware so that the handle is sturdy and factory. My only recommendation for the install would be to run an extra wire down the frame with the pop & lock one so you can install bed lights later down the road.

    This is EXACTLY what I did, splicing into the PASSENGER SIDE wiring to reduce the number of cycles on the mechanism.

    I have the dynolock electric for 8 years and it works great. The actuator did come loose once and jam the latch and I had to go back in and repair it... new screws and some glue. To be safe when I got a tonneau I got one with an external key lock (Pace Edwards Jackrabbit) so I can access the tailgate inside if the electric actuator ever again jams. Alternatively, if you get a tonneau with an inside release I would run a hidden emergency release cable out under the bed.

    To those who have the power one. All the reviews says its loud. How loud is it? I mean will people standing nearby think my truck is a POS or is it a locking sound. If it sounds horrible and broke every time i will cringe. But I like the idea of having a key and power so if one fails the other works. Would you do it again or go with just a standard locking handle

    Unfortunately, it's easily heard and does not sound good. The mechanism is sounds like dry metal pieces grating together when actuated, and lubrication seems to have no effect. All of that said, I'd do it again for the convenience of knowing it's locked whenever my truck is.
