ok, gonna beat a dead horse ( sorta ).

I have a pop n lock ( the one where your ignition key opens it ) with everything i've seen here, the problem is usually the handle. My problem is not the handle. the gate opens fine. the problem is that the key wont turn anymore. Fortunately it is stuck in the unlock position so i can open my gate. Here is my issue....I just bought a Bakflip cover and I am worried about putting it on. I don't have a problem buying a new one or even fixing the the one i have. My problem is...what if i get it fixed and then it gets stuck locked with the cover on?? what then? is there any maintenance i can do to prevent this from happening again?

While I hope your gate will not lock in place, however, the backflip is not that secure. There is a flap on the backflip that rests on the top of the tailgate.

Lift the flap and with a coat hanger you can pull the release for the back flip

The lock will keep honest people honest!

I cant help you at all on your issue with the Bakflip, however last week I discovered that my Pop-N-Lock is behaving the exact same way as yours. I installed it last june and have never actually used the lock part. Now it wont allow the key to turn, thankfully its unlocked.

Let me know how you fix it.

I had the same issue not too long after I had installed mine. 'Sprayed some dry graphite lube into the key slot a few times, worked the key back and forth, and that seems to have done the trick. I plan to repeat the treatment every now and then just for luck.

I'm going to install the cover today. Thanks for the tip!

I will probably try the graphite like miami75 mentioned. If that doesn't work, they make a replacement lock so your not buying the whole handle.

So, i'm guessing you already own the Bakflip. I watched an installation video and the guy took off the front bedrail. Do you know why this is necessary?

I have the OPs setup with a bakflip and popnlock.

The bakflip isn't Fort Knox by any means so I wouldn't be too concerned. I actually tied a string to the bakflip cable used to open it and ran it to the Rubber piece that sits on the tailgate. I just taped it there. No one knows it's there but me, so if the popnlock ever fails I just lift the rubber piece and pull on the string to open up the bakflip. From there it's easy to undo the tailgate lining to get the tailgate to open.
