Hi, just wondering if anyone has put a pop-up,slide-in camper on their 2016-17 Tacoma? As I bought the truck with the intention of doing just that. Now I hear the truck won't handle the weight.

Forget the Palomino and opt for either a FWC or ATC shell model, which will be less than 850 lbs with a single lead acid battery installed. You'll still need to do some suspension upgrades. Both FWC and ATC use welded aluminum frame construction.

The shell models are rather spartan - but any added luxuries to include a forced air heater, fridge, stove or hot water heater just add weight.

The ATC Bobcat as far as I know needs a 6 foot bed. The FWC Swift fits a 5 foot bed and they do make a Fleet model for the 6 foot bed.

Another lightweight option that allows you to build out the intererior as you want is the Tacoma Habitat from Adventure Trailers. It's not self contained and it's not going to be as warm as a slide in though.
