    Hi everyone,

I purchased a super clean used 2012 Prerunner a few years ago and it's an awesome little truck.

A little over a year ago I noticed a popping sound regularly when I brake but have had no other issues except replacing an alternator. In the last year, I now hear popping when breaking and sometimes turning. It has also begun to creak quite regularly and I will be taking it somewhere for inspection of the issue soon. Brakes will also need to be changed soon.

I have very little mechanical knowledge, and have read up on some threads here that talk about similar sounds, but wanted to refresh the issue to see if anyone has anything new to add. It will help me feel a bit more knowledgeable and understand better when I go see a mechanic.

It's an access cab 6 cylinder, 2 wheel drive. Not sure why they make trucks 2 wheel drive lol but it is such a good vehicle.

I hope to report back once I get to a mechanic.

If it has anything to do with suspension I'm wondering if I can beef it up a little because I am admittedly hard on my vehicles and want this to be a lifetime truck. I don't mind spending a bit more to protect the truck from hard use.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

caliper slide pins get hung up with rust and the pads pop on those when braking

New pads, rotors and caliper hardware should take care of it if that is the issue

Thank you, so much! I had only read a brief mention of brake issues as a possibilty, I appreciate the clarity. :)

Creaking over bumps and brake application sounds like control arm bushings. Popping on braking and turns can also be ball joints.
