I need some help? I just put a Cobra 19 cb and NOAA in my taco. very simple setup that pulls its power from the 12V cigarette lighter. Followed the directions to a T since I am not very good with electrical. Every time I turn on the radio it blows the fuses. There are 3 fuses in the setup including the accessory fuse in the truck. Both of the inline fuses in the radio power cord are 250V.
Like I said, I am not that good with electrical so any advice would be super helpful....

I'm not an expert on this, but I'm guessing your radio(s) are pulling more amps than what your fuses allow. You need to look up how many amps the radios pull (combined if you're powering both off the cig lighter power). Then put fuses in that allow that amount of amps. Might want to research if there's a limit on the allowable circuit amperage for the cig lighter circuit too. :notsure: but that's my best guess.

If MQQSE's comment doesn't work, I think it will, double check any grounds that you put in and make sure they are tight.

DO NOT JUST PUT LARGER AMP FUSES IN YOUR FUSEBOX !!!!! This is how wire fires start in vehicles. If you keep blowing fuses running it through the power outlet in the dash then either your radio is shorted or you are drawing too much power. If you take out a 10 amp fuse and put in a 20 amp fuse then the fuse is no longer the weakest link in the circuit, your wiring is. Run a 14 gauge wire directly to the battery with a 20 amp fuse as close to the battery as possible. The only problem with this setup is you have to remember to shut it off when you shut your truck off.

With the inline fuses removed, recheck your wiring with a voltmeter. If wiring is good, and check the radios for a power lead short to ground.
