Hey guys have a 17 trd or 4x4 dcsb. Its has the auto trans. Everytime it seems I take off from a stop, I hear a little pop from the rear of the truck it seems like. I notice when down shifting as well sometimes at low speeds or shifting into first I believe it makes the same noise. At first I thought it could be something in my bed sliding back and forth so I took everything out, but unfortunately the pop continued. I hope its not transmission related truck only has 13,000 miles. Any thoughts? Thanks guys..

Describe this pop, is it like popcorn popping? Is it like a gun shot? Something in between?

Got a smart phone? Tape it under your truck in your drive way and pop it in gear (pun intended) and we can get a better idea of what’s going on

I just noticed mine doing the same thing. Checked the spare tire and it's not loose and exhaust doesn't seem to move much either

100% sure it’s from the rear? You mentioned transmission related...

I had a popping sound going from a stop (usually turning) and turns out the alignment tech didn’t torque two of my LCA bolts.

Anyway, check the torque on the ubolts, carrier bearing, LCAs or like previously suggested, grab some video.

    Good luck.

How would I know? The guy who previously owned the truck put bilstein 5100 all round on the stock coils and it looks like 1 inch steel blocks in the rear. Could this be the reason?

I had axle wrap in my last taco, but it wasn’t making noises, I had vibrations from it. Anything is possible, so I’d just tighten everything I could get my hands on to spec and see if that helps.

Did you have any mods recently? Or an alignment?

I know it drives you nuts OP - me too. But it can be found. There’s a wealth of knowledge on this forum. Don’t let it drive you too crazy.

Did someone say popping sound? When my truck pops into first gear its because I popped the clutch and my rear tires chirped. All these strange sounds.....
