See how you do after you torque those cam bolts.

I sure will. Just not sure which ones to put a wrench on. Don't want to change the alignment.

Wrench down the nuts, only the nut will tighten, you need a different size wrench for the cams.

Thanks pudge! All the nuts were tight. Torque wrench set at 100 ft/lbs and got the click without moving the nuts. Any other ideas?

Got under there to remove the sway bar to see if that helps. Figure id have to do that to replace the rack bushings.

I noticed the drivers side LBJ stud was missing it's cotter pin. Weird. I put a wrench on the castle nut and the stud started turning with the nut. Jacked it up under the lower control arm and was able to torque the stud nut to 105ft/lbs. put in another cotter. I'll see if it still pops.

Weird thing is I thought I put a new cotter pin in when I installed the LBJ. Very odd.

So did that fix it? I have that same pop and have been thinking of replacing my LBJ's.

I replaced my rack bushings and I still have that same "pop" you guys are talking about. That was my first thought, the rack bushings but it did no good except for now I have new bushings. I replaced every single part of my front end and it still pops when I turn or move my steering wheel back & forth with the truck running. No play in the steering wheel though just a popping sound. It's random though. Not all the time but still enough to worry about

That did fix it. I replaced the sway bar end links too but the sound was gone immediately after I tightened that castle nut.

Great thanks I'll give that a shot, my truck only has 87k miles so I doubt I need new LBJ's yet

I know this thread is over a year old but just thought I'd post my results since this thread helped me out a bunch.

2008 Tacoma 4x4, no lift, new shocks, all new ball joints and bushings in the front end. Noise started a handful of miles later. Tightened the LCA cam bolta and POOF, sound gone. Alignment guy didn't get then tight enough on one side.

    Thanks guys.

I had the same issue with my 2nd gen. The alignment guy torqued the sh*t out of the alignment cam bolts and then left them too loose. He ended up stripping one of the bolts and mushrooming the threads at the end and I had squeaks and pops for awhile until I torqued the bolts. I kept having an occasional pop and found the mushroomed / stripped threads bouncing off the sleeve so I couldn't tell what was happening until I took it apart since I could torque it to spec, but it still had play when it hit a bump or a parking curb. Weak sauce.

I know it was him because I had just installed a long travel kit with the cam bolts in perfect shape and the popping started right after I got the truck back from him. The company I bought it from ignored my request for lighter springs than what they spec'd for trucks with larger cabs and V6's and so the tie rod extensions were too long and the alignment guy couldn't get the toe in spec. He was yelling curse words and throwing stuff when I got back saying that the guy who installed it didn't know what he was doing. Well that was the only guy that knew he was doing in the process of the company selling the wrong springs for my truck and the alignment tech not figuring out what the situation was before stripping my alignment cam bolt. I got some shorter tie rod extensions from the company an got toe in spec no problem at home before taking it to another alignment shop...
