Yesterday I clicked a link and came across a heavily trafficked porn thread here in Off-Topic-Discussions. I admit to being taken back by what was posted, and as a consequence didn't spend much time there. However finding a porn thread here on Tacoma World raised questions concerning what people understand about porn and its effects. After thinking about it I figured I'd ask what YOU believe the effects of pornography on individuals and on society at large amounts to?

Does porn matter, or is it of no consequence in the overall scheme of things?

Do you see porn as a harmless indulgence that injures no one, or an addictive destructive practice that eats away at and corrodes the souls of those involved?

Whatever your views may be, if you do choose to respond please include whatever data and written evidence you have to back up your beliefs.

It can be both....Just like alcohol or chocolate cake. I've perused the underground from time to time when my wife is not around...but she'll be the first one to plug her computer into the TV and hit up a porno site on a night home at home for us...and sometimes a night alone for her.

There are people who can't deal with it tho...They stop having normal sex and just look at porn....They can't mantain normal relationships because of it...Just like any other addition.

If the underground isn't your thing...I'd recommend not heading down there any more.

Hey, sometimes you just need to rub one out and looking at the flowers on the box to tissues is a sure way to elicit blue balls.

I'm sure some people look at porn and develop an unhealthy attraction to the model they're viewing and as such a skewed vision of the gender they are viewing.

Myself? I just like looking at it because I enjoy the female form and it helps me to remember some of the good times with the little lady when she's not here or I'm away at work up north.
That and it gives me new ideas for what to do to her next.

 

Porn is like alcohol, cigars or anything else. A little bit is no big deal.....let it run your life (ie financially and/or literally) and it's a bad thing.

Half way through my elaborate response, i decided to say fuck it, no one really cares what i have to think, so heres my view on porn:

I won't go so far to as say I need it, but i do enjoy it sometimes. If choose to fap, its usually cause i'm thinking "i'd like to do that to my gf".

I guess you could say porn can sometimes serve as a very explicit picture tutorial. Put that in the cheap mod section!

What about the harm the pornographic industry imposes on women by exploiting their bodies as soul less commodities, sex objects intended strictly for the generation of capital gain?

There's nothing sexy or beautiful about young women being victimized or about girls being beaten and tortured during exploitive sex.

If all we're going to get here are self serving opinions, things such as the often heard "We have the right.....consenting adults .....first amendment.....no harm done....if you like it fine, if you don't fine," then we're ignoring a major issue, something that must be addressed.

Everyone snared in and by the porn industry is hurt. Girls with no other means of support find themselves "forced" into the business by circumstance. Most of these end up on drugs, diseased, or have multiple abortions and/or pregnancies during their typically five years of porn "stardom."

Such young women or girls are "used" until they aren't wanted or needed any longer. Most older ex-porn "stars," women with enough courage to express themselves on this issue, typically admit that they don't look back on their past with pride. They come to realize only too late that they were victims, not the "willing participants" they initially let themselves believe when first drawn into the porn industry's snare.

These women, as well as society at large, are VICTIMS of pornographic monetary greed, and people must step up and help put a stop to such debasing abuse. If controlling the magnitude of pornographic production and ease of distribution that this twisted industry thrives on requires direct government intervention and oversight, so be it. If there are other ways to stem this awful tide of destruction, then we should see to it they're put into place and made to work.

Men generally say they're in favor of no restrictions on pornography, while women tend to turn their heads and cover their eyes to avoid the issue. Women need to stop being blind and/or naive and demand that the men in their lives not subject themselves to pornography. And men have to individually and collectively step back and take stock of the awful toll this sinful sickness has imposed and will continue to impose on their lives as well as the lives of the wives and children they're called on to love, nurture and protect.

Do we have the backbone and will to take our society back from pornographers who shamelessly degrade women for the sake of profit? Or is it too late for America and the rest of the world to change? God help us if that's the case..

Yea, I have an opinion, and I'm willing to express it. If you also have an opinion that bears weight please feel free to express it as well. No need to argue with me to do so. Simply state your case and give us reason to believe what you say..

Underground Porn industry blooms and then REAL abuses start. And oh yeah...If the US outlawed porn...guess who would still be making it: THE REST OF THE WORLD.

No one is forced into anything- They make a choice. I know chicks that have been strapped for cash and didn't turn to sex for money. I'd love to see your research or information regarding how so many of the "service industry" workers end up druggies and what not...and then I'd love to find out how many of those girls wanted to party like rockstars....I'm willing to bet it's a lot of them. I've done a few things I'm not proud of...and looking back maybe wish I hadn't. But they were fun as HELL when I was doing them. That's not a realization you were victimized...It's a change in point of view.

The gov't makes enuf decisions for me already. I don't need their help any more. Could it be a better business...Sure. But it's regulated as much as needed. Keep your ideas about enforcement your morality away from me.
