i have looked around a bit and haven’t really found much information on upgrades that are available as kit/part options, such as the Port/Dealer installs. I ask this as I have previously found this information pretty common in other brands. Sometimes options aren’t possible due to absence of wiring plugs or other shortcomings. So let’s say that spiffy new Tacoma doesn’t have auto lights, can it be added simply? Can you install Parking Assist? I’m just curious and I’m sure there are others that may have interest as well.

    None as of yet
Those are factory options included in the tech packagees on the TRD models and limited. Won't be a simple addition at a dealer.

Those were just examples. I’m sure there’s a salesperson or partsperson that has a working knowledge of these. I’ve found some brands that make it fairly plug/play to shift options. I’ve also seen systematic obstruction to prevent option upgrading. An example of this is the whole visor mirror Homelink upgrade.

EDIT: I have also heard others here, such as the only thing missing from a rear camera option is a rear camera. The wires were already present.

I recall someone saying they looked into dual zone climate control and there were too many part changes. Another I thought of is PTS, but I think that one is unlikely as there are a number of parts there. I think dealers should be able to do fog lights, bed lights, grille, and radio changes pretty easy. I'd assume the charger base is also in that group.

Typically, any thing you can add as an “option”, you can easily do yourself. Anything that comes from a package, is a little harder since those are factory installed vs port.

Too much shit is routed through your ECU these days for it so be a simple dealer install.

For example, the auto headlights. It’s conteolled via the ECU and the setting for it are on the radio head unit.

But that's the sort of thing that makes it easier (sort of, at least by the dealer), because that's flash programmed. So, if the dealer just plugged in the light sensor, added the appropriate switch and lights... perhaps the options are now available? Perhaps just a code update? But if the wiring isn't there from the start, it's mute. Chrysler has a number of these (upgrades)... including sunroof (in some cases)! want to add XM? can be done. Want DRL? No problem. That's the reason I got curious. Honda is pretty notorious for blocking options by having separate body harnesses for different options... want to add something? - Order a new vehicle.

You should already have a Back Up Camera on your Truck.

Right, I’ve done a few mods using carista and Toyota tech stream (sunroof using the remote, windows down using the remote, DRL brightness) but there’s nothing about enabling auto headlamps on the techstream software.
