i need a small air compressor to fill up some helper bags and was thinking about buying the harbor freight compressors for that reason with some manual air switches. You guys think it would do? What kind of compressors come with the firestone kit if anybody knows? Don't really want to spend 300 on their kit.

There are a couple good DIY's out there using the MV-50 compressor. Here is one.

Pep Boys will have a sale on a masterflow 1040 on black friday. $15 after rebate. Bought one last year and it works great. Its beefier than the HF one I got for 12 bucks but the HF one keeps chugging along but gets pretty darn hot.

Just had an experience with the MF 1052 (I guess this is now the MF 1050?)

It just inflated four 35 x 12.5 tires from 20 psi to 36 psi in about 20 mins.

Didn't get overly hot, didn't seem strained. Super easy to use. Tiny compressor.

I was sold. Will be eventually buying one of these.

    20 / 4 = 5 min. per tire.

    36-20 = 16 psi added.

16 / 5 = 3.2 psi per minute (perhaps includes time to move to the next tire).

    Sounds about right.

i have had the MV-50 for a few years now, works great and is a lot cheaper than it's more expensive counter parts made by ARB and Viair. only complaint i have ever had is every once in a while during the summer when it's super hot (talking in the 100's) the compressor will overheat and shut down. usually it takes about 15 minutes to cool before it turns on again. when my MV-50 compressor finally dies i'll buy another one.

i got tired of always unpacking and repacking that sucker from it's carrying case i hard mounted it into my engine compartment.

here's some PSI tests and comparisons with the MV-50 compressor. i could not find the one video that i was looking for that has the MV50 blowing away the $200 Viair compressor

There are a couple factors when purchasing an air compressor. For instance, majority of my fill ups have been at 8,000ft+, because I fill up before driving home.

Compressors will lose efficiency at higher elevations.

Yeah I was just kind of estimating with the 20 mins.

It didn't seem long, and the conversation was good. :D

For all intents and purposes this little compressor did a great job. All that I would need.

If worse comes to worse you can always turn either a set of rock sliders or a tube bumper to a tank for the compressor. Mount it in a remote spot and just run it till you got full pressure and leave it off till needed to refill and BAM your ready for anything that needs air, especially air tools depending how hard you offroad. Also if your truck is equipped with either.
