    Just picked me up a Porter-Cable Air Compressor from Amazon.

    http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-C1010-Heavy-Duty-1-Gallon-Compressor/dp/B00519EUCE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323222014&sr=8-1

    It's rated at 2.6A at start-up and 3.5A during operation.

    It's perfect for those of us that have the bed outlets.

    Power = Voltage x Current

    Start-up:
    312 Watts = 120 V x 2.6 A

    Operating:
    420 Watts = 120 V x 3.5 A

    Got it in the mail today and I tested it out. Plugged it into the bed outlet and it runs perfectly! Filled up all 4 tires as a test and it worked flawlessly. Extremely quite and portable, just toss it in the back seat before going out wheeling.

    Link is fixed...I am not too worried about the thing crapping out on me. Porter-Cable stuff is really nice. All of the reviews are great, and if you look up the Dewalt equivalent, there are plenty of satisfied customers there too.

    http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-D55140-1-Gallon-Trim-Compressor/dp/B000HZJMFM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

    I only topped off the tires, but it only takes about 30 seconds to fill the 1 gallon tank to 135 psi. I can't see it taking no longer than 10 minutes to do all 4 starting from 15 psi or so.

    Maybe I didn't mean replacement, I meant a cheaper alternative?

    That's cause the pancake compressor model C2002 requires about 10 amps which equates to 1200 Watts of power. The inverter on our trucks can only supply 400 watts.

    No it's a little too big for that...you can get a sense of it's size if you look at the Amazon link and check out the picture of it behind the back seats of the truck.

    I think your current draw figures are backwards all motors draw more current at start up then run but the max is 420 watts so the inverter should still handle it because it's only at start up.

    Normally yes you would be right but this model has a current limiter that allows the motor to start up easier. The numbers I have posted are correct.

    0.75 SCFM delivered at 90 PSI; one-gallon tank and 135 PSI max enable surge performance with quick recovery Durable, maintenance-free pump ensures ease of use and long product life Low 71 dBA for quiet operation; 2.6-amp draw for easy start up and reduced breaker tripping High-flow regulator provides maximum performance Light weight (23 pounds) and compact design (9 inches tall) for convenient storage and transport

    Very nice! Definitely something to add to my list of stuff I want to buy! I have found the bed outlet to be pretty useful! It runs my 250w work light, my jig saw and charges batteries for my cordless drill... VERY handy if you are on a job site without power...
