When my white Schnauzer had excessive diarrhea, her vet said to give her coconut flavored pedialyte to help her with thirst.

Sad. I think of it this way, as a dog person. She could’ve been born to a stray. In that case she may have died already. She got lucky and has a good home with people that want to take care of her.

Give her the best life you can and when the day comes, whether that’s 10 years from now or 10 months you can take comfort knowing you made her life better than it may have otherwise have been.

My pups and I are hoping she not only hits that high end of life expectancy but surpasses it. Sounds like she’s got every chance with your family.

Edit: I just seen that you got the test results back. I am very sorry to hear that it is something that will likely have long lasting effects. I will say that the dog does not care and that’s a good thing. My dog puked anywhere he pleased everyday for over a year and never felt bad for a second. He was happy the whole time while we were concerned and felt bad for him. My buddy’s dog was a 100+ pound Rottweiler and dachshund mix (picture that?) who never ran a day in his life, ate pizza and the like and Old Roy dry dog food and lived to be over 19 years old. We care but they don’t care, they just live for the moment.

My post is probably irrelevant given the results, but I will leave it in case others looking for remedies to similar issues come across it.

Our male was the same way until he was over a year old. We just thought his stomach was weak at first and the timing of his tests just missed the point when his liver levels became highly elevated. As a result of the testing interval several months went by before his next test and us finding out that the levels were as elevated as they were.

He is a Shepherd, which meant that it was possible that he had an adverse reaction to the 6 month heartworm shot he was given. So the first step for us was to switch to a monthly Heartgard chewable instead of the shot. Not sure if something similar would apply to your dog’s breed(s).

The other step was to lower the protein content in his food. We were feeding a combination of raw chicken and Orijen (30+% protein) dry dog food. We switched to feeding only Taste of the Wild (26% protein) dry food. Pay attention to the protein content among the different varieties of the same brand (fish variety protein content is higher than other varieties, etc.)

The vet prescribed solution was the following medications:

-Denamarin (a combination of Sam-E complete and milk thistle formula for dogs)

-EFA3N (a combination of Omega 3 and 6 with antioxidants formula for dogs).

Following the above regimen, his levels improved with each test and within 6 months his levels were completely normal, his excessive drinking stopped and so did his constant puking. Hard to say which one of the steps was the most effective of course, but it worked.

my lab cannot be trusted with water. he’s 9 years old and since day one he pounds water till he pukes. only remedy we’ve found for it is obviously ration water but also give him warm water.

giving him warm water has almost entirely stopped his puking. vets been like that’s weird but there’s nothing wrong with him. if it works, it works and roll with it

My lil pup was extremely thirsty when he was younger and had very weak rear legs. He's starting to grow up now (almost one) and you'd never guess he was on the weaker side growing up.

I'm no veterinarian, but my advice is to watch her closely, make sure she doesn't drink herself silly, and feed her tons of food!

I sincerely wish you the best of luck with Mandy!

Colt is your dog? Holy shit!

Fun fact: I was watching Emergency Vets on Animal Planet when I was 8 years old. I LOVED that show! Basically, I love this kind of stuff!

yeah colts always been a thick dog and we joked about him getting fat and the week before surgery we started throwing on bile randomly.

in 3 hours he lost 14lbs. now he’s back up to weight if not 8lbs over thanks to the wife who plays into his fucking “i’m starving” ploys

they’re remarkably tough critters. just monitor what you can, regulate if his blood panels come back nominal try regulating his drinking with warm water. dunno maybe you dog has my fucktards genes

My boss's female Boxer/Lab mix got hit by two cars in a row when she was 6 months old and almost died! She ended up making a full recovery, but my boss's bank account wasn't so lucky...

Sorry to hear the news buddy. I was hoping it was going to be less severe. How ever long she lives, just make it a good life and the puppy will be happy.
