Just moved up to Portland Oregon from the San Francisco Bay Area. It was time to make a change in my life so I packed up and moved to the pnw. So far I love it, unfortunately I don't know to many people up here. just wanted to get a sense of how many tacomaworld members are up here. Does anyone get together and talk trucks? Camping? off roading? would be great to get together with some fellow tacoma drivers and connect. (mods/admins if there is a dedicated category please re direct!) thank you!DSC_0018.jpg

I'm moving up there in a couple of weeks, just finalizing liking arrangements. We will be closer to OHSU on the South side. Let's meet up and explore together!

I've barely drove through Tillmook forest the last time I went up but that's one of the first places I'm going to spend the day exploring.

Born and raised and I'm getting ready to move. High taxes, stupid high property taxes, new liberal gun laws, and more crime.

I won’t sugar coat it... a little bit of both...

Not to mention people coming from Cali are able to pay outrageous prices for a shitty house and price local homegrown buys out of the market.

Then it raise the property tax so f in much that my family will be forced to sell the land that has been in the family for 100 years. It went up $2200 in one year.

Down the road from me, some idiot from California bought a shit box mobile home on 5 acres of un usable swamp land right next to a state highway for 280k. o_O

This has more to do with our State's legislature than anything. We don't have an income tax and they hate that. So what do they do? They abuse the property tax system (and every other usage based tax) to force their point. They think if people are being thrown out of their properties then the people will relent and let them have their income tax.

Then they found that was a godsend because it forced people to sell, which raised the base property values for everyone around them. More of other peoples money to spend, yea!

Look at the requested 2 year budget. Yet somehow we don't have enough to do this or that. BS, they'll use those things for the 'but the children' part. Or whatever our latest crisis is that can't be solved by people being actual adults.

as a guy who is has been living in California my entire life. I can say that Oregon is going though the same "crisis" as California is. People from out of state who are coming in and buying up homes paying CASH. Forcing a lot of native locals to look else where for affordable housing. and not wanting to stray to far from the west they look north. So I wouldn't put the entire weight of the problem on out of state-ers when everyone is just trying to do what's best for themselves and or families.

-all BS aside im happy to be up here and more than looking forward to meeting fellow tacoma enthusiasts!!

It's a touchy subject as I'm sure those in Oregon (and other states) are facing the same issues we have here. My parents had to move way out of the city to afford a place. A big part of the problem is out of town/country investors are buying up real estate and driving the market up. It's almost unlivable here for someone working their way up the flag pole.

I know some people will probably judge me after I move up there when I say I'm from Cali. I'm just trying to get my family a safe place to call home and find a community to live in and contribute to.
