It looks like an aftermarket gasket with 3 tubes of the same sealant.

I got it from RockAuto a few months ago. The listing didn't specify any imperfection or any out of the ordinary application

Factory doesn't use a gasket only FIPG.

Don't use both, it will end up being a mess. Factory uses silicone only, stick with that

Are you the original owner of the truck? If not, I'm wondering if the oil pan has been removed before.

Is the torque value for the attaching hardware significantly different for FIPG versus a solid gasket?

Good question. The book says 80 in/lbs for the bolts and 84 for the nuts. I do wonder if too much torque might squeeze the goo out or if you should do it in two stages where you apply minimal torque until the goo solidifies and then do the rest.

Generally, with RTV the fasteners are pulled up to finger tight. The RTV is allowed to cure, then to final torque.

Read the directions on the tube of goo.

The purpose of torque levels on fasteners is to "stretch" the fastener to develop the clamp load to hold the parts together.

Once upon a lifetime ago, I was in Industrial Air Compressors as a mechanical engineer. A critical step in the design process was determining the clamp loads and torque levels to hold the valve plates, heads and cylinders together with heat, air loads and vibration. The process was the same with gaskets or RTV.

BTW, all the calcs are a bit fuzzy. I always used them as a guide. Testing would verify if the torque level was proper.

80 in/lb sounds about right. Yes most of the goo will get squeezed out but some of it will stay where it's needed, filling in the gaps between the 2 metal surfaces. That's how silly-cone works.

There we go, that answers the question. Final torque values being the same

The ultimate arbiters would be the FSM and the instructions on the sealant.

The FSM/Haynes are often obscure and not specific enough

Pretty straight forward (besides the nut torque typo, should be 7.4 ft*lbf as correctly shown in the component breakout snapshot)...

It’s somewhat vague here but I’m inclined to translate this as apply the sealant, install the pan, install the bolts/nuts and tighten/torque immediately. Nothing about waiting for the sealant to set up.

Wonder what the instructions on the OEM packing say.
