Hi all, recently the battery warning light has come on occasionally on my 1996 5ZE-FE rig. I've yet to diagnose it other than test the battery itself, which is newer and fine. One possible culprit is the positive battery terminal, which is hella old and rusty.

In any case, I'd like to replace the terminal because of its condition. Any recommendations of a replacement model? The positive cable is quite taut, so I'm concerned that once I trim it and attach the new terminal, it won't quite reach the positive battery post. Thanks.

Don't laugh but o'reilly has some decent "universal" cable assemblies in varying lengths. On a older rig like that it may be your best option. I wouldn't be surprised if it's N/A at the dealer

Some of them have a fairly nice clamp at the end so you can cut off the existing cable, peel back the insulation and join them. It's like giant butt connector for a thick cable

I modified the existing wire lug to fit onto one of these guys. Done this on 2 different vehicles and it’s never been an issue.

Might not hurt to upgrade the cables now as well.

i have been using Marine Grade terminals and Making my own Cables for years.

Have you checked your Alternator output while the engine is running?

Hi all, OP here. What I want to address first is to replace my older corroded positive battery terminal with a new one, with the restriction that the *existing positive battery cable is too short*. Hunting around, this product seems like it will work for this situation.

    Battery Harness Repair Splice

This may or may not solve the battery dashboard light issue, but it does replace the older corroded positive battery terminal. BTW does anyone know what gauge wire the stock positive battery cable is? Thanks.

You do understand this is an emergency Temporary repair more or less to get you time to repair things correct when you might be far from home.

The stock positive cable is not very large either 2 or 4 AWG without looking closer.

    Good luck.

Thank you. I should consider replacing the entire cable then. I have a shoulder injury so it is difficult right now to do such a repair myself. May have to hire someone.

If you were close I would make the cable and put it on.

I will gladly take a bad shoulder over my shot hips and knees.

A google or forum search for Big 3 Upgrade will provide some good reads and photos for wiring upgrades as well.
