The trick though is determining the relative rate of resale, since the raw quantity is useless out of context. (not that this slows down those intent on spreading misinformation)

Say there are a hundred used 2016 Tacos and fifty 2016 Canyons; which is the higher rate? The Canyon, since its sales volume is less than a fifth that of the Tacoma.

So - how many 2016 Tacos, how many Canyons, how many Colorados, and how many Frontiers?

    Scale against sales figures: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2016/07/best-selling-pickup-trucks-june-2016.html

Unfortunately, none of this can factor in the rate at which dumbasses buy more truck than they can afford and then put it up for sale despite it being perfectly fine. If one model attracts more of these dumbasses than another model, that could potentially skew the figures.

Okay just for fun I had a look at Cars.com with a 50 mile radius search specifying used 2016 models

    21 Tacomas
    14 Colorados
    7 Canyons
    33 Frontiers

From the link above, June 2016 YTD sales of 2016 models were 95,035 Tacomas, 51,227 Colorados, 17,362 Canyons, and 45,011 Frontiers. That put the sales ratios at 1.38-to-1 Tacoma to Colorado+Canyon and 2.1-to-1 Tacoma to Frontier. The used-for-sale ratios are 1-to-1 Tacoma to Colorado+Canyon and 1-to-1.57 Tacomo to Frontier.

So... the rate of used 2016s for sale relative to new units sold is lowest for the Tacoma, at least here in my area.

The GM twins are a fair bit higher, and the Nissan showing substantially more used 2016s available relative to the new unit sales volume.

I am not wanting to work so I checked cars.com for my area.

    16 Tacomas
    2 Colorados
    2 Canyons
    6 Frontiers

My state loves Tacomas so I am not surprised we have a few used ones out there.

Yeah, the one piece above is that I'm unable to factor in regional sales differences between models. As you suggest, new-truck sales in your area may be heavily skewed towards Tacomas relative to the national sales figures.

The other factor we're unable to assess is whether there's any significant number of "oh #*&$* I shoulda bought a 4x4" trade-ups where someone initially buys a 4x2 then realizes they f'd up and then sucks it up, accepts the $$$ penalty, and buys a 4x4.

I ordered my 6MT 2016 OR, sight unseen, no issues.

Then I ordered my TRD Pro, 6MT, sight unseen. My OR is getting traded in on it.

However, all my friends who ask about Tacoma problems, I tell them to wait till 2025, the perfect Tacoma will be out there. Till then I will live with the problematic ones.

Long live FJ and 3 wipers.

You getting your Pro from the same salesman you bought the OR from?

Cool. Pays to re-use a salesman you had a good experience with. I bought my 4Runner from the same guy I purchased my Tacoma from. Great deal and easy transaction.

I ordered my Sport before joining here. I debated the OR and other trims before ordering, but figured the sport was the right choice. After joining here I now want something to happen to my order so I can push for the pro, I just doubt they would sell it to me for what I would be willing to pay with out them "feeling bad" cause something got screwed up.

As I was contemplating my order for an optioned up OR, I got to thinking whether I ought to consider the Pro instead.

The things that spoiled the idea though was that the Pro lacked both the JBL option and also lost the sunroof from the P&T package. Learning that took the Pro off the list.

You're also right in that you'll probably have trouble finding a dealer willing to discount a Pro by much at all. Too many people willing to walk in and pay MSRP or higher; all most dealers need do is wait for them to walk in.

I didn't get the JBL (think I can do better after market for the money, and stock will work for a while), and the Moon/Sun roof has been problem areas for me in other vehicles so as much as I like them, not worth it in my mind.

I really love the cement color.

Moonroof and 6MT were must for me. Thus that is how I ordered my OR 4x4. I never owned a car/truck without a moonroof. However, the Pro Cement is such sex, that I had to give up the moonroof on that order. 4 more weeks, can't wait.

Personal preferences. I've seen the Cement in person and it doesn't ring my bell. I can appreciate that others may love it, but it's not my cup of tea. I've had various vehicles with and without the upgraded stereo (Bose, Logic7, JBL) and have always enjoyed the upgrade and never wanted more; while I probably could save some money going aftermarket and DIY, the bit of extra cost is worth not trying to juggle yet another chainsaw right now. :D As for sunroofs, Every car or truck I've owned for the past twenty years has had a sunroof except one car, a hardtop convertible.

You shouldn't need such harsh tools for DIY Stereo. :) I'm just doing a 6 speaker replace then adding an amp and sub later. Really the annoying part is like building a PC = Cable management. ;)

LOL. Yeah, I've done speaker replacements before years ago so I know the routine. Haven't done amp/sub before but have researched it. I'm a big fan of Crutchfield even if they're not the cheapest source.

Anyway, since I don't thump to rattle the sheet metal, the OEM JBL is doing what I want and I'm happy with the additional cost.

I'm in the process of installing nail-down 3/4" hardwood throughout the house on my evenings and weekends; my lovely wife would very much prefer I not add any new projects until this one is finished. :)
