I was thinking the same thing.....might order it and install it if it isn't too expensive. I think one member said it was installed on his 3rd gen.

Any update yet? Have they installed the new leaf springs yet? As I expected the drums did nothing for fixing the vib's. I just found out today that there ordering new leaf springs as well. I'm getting really frustrated with this shit

Damn it. When I was talking with the service dept. I could have sworn I heard them say, they ordered that steering damper people are talking about on here. I'll report back tomorrow when I get more info on it.

They described it to me as a"kit",and told me it was on backorder. They said to expect 1-2 weeks. I believe that was this past Friday when I was there.

They used the word "kit" as well with me. If they somehow fix the rumble strip vib and the vib's between 1900 and 2400 I'm gonna demand a extended warranty for this Frankenstein truck.

What's the purpose of the steering dampener that is shown, is it for the 2016's and what is it supposed to cure?

I'm thinking its to address the buzz feeling when the rpm's are around 1900-2300 some of us experience it. If you have it, you would know what I'm talking about.

I really hope this cures the root cause, and doesn't just mute the symptom by making your steering feel exceptionally numb with no feedback.

The damper is not a "root cause" fix, exactly as you described "mute" the symptom. Although don't get confused, I believe this damper is more related to the 1800-2100 vibration, not the "rumble strip" low speed vibration as the OP described. From what the 2nd gen guys have been dealing with, the low speed vibes are driveline angle related which leads to the new leaf springs with proper pinion angles.

So you're just going to drive around with bags of mulch in your truck all the time? What happens when you really need that bed space for something? You just take the bags out, and when you're done using the bed you put them back in? Ha! Sounds like a hack fix to me.

They won't release a TSB because it would mean that pretty much EVERY Tacoma would be getting it. Would cost Toyota way too much.

So I haven't seen this issue, but also replaced my leafs with OME leafs very early on. Curious how many folks with replaced leaf packs are getting this?
