Actually it is an old trick that has been used for generations. In the early 70's when I was very young and impressionable I worked at a
Dodge dealership. When a customer complained about wind noise we used a piece of 2x4 between the door the body and then applied gentile pressure to the top of the window frame to achieve the desired adjustment. Worked great, but I like bagleboy's approach better.

Been awhile since I've updated this thread. My various fixes have all worked to some degree....the tubing in the corners working the best. But some noise started to creep back in from time to time even with that fix.

In doing a bit more research it turns out that noisy door seals are actually quite common among different makes and models. I stumbled across a VW forum where several people recommend a product sold at Napa.

I figured it couldn't hurt. I applied it to the entire outer seal around the window. I also added it to the inner seal. The noise was immediately gone and has been for months now. A couple of days after the application I added a second one just to make sure...including the valley/fold along the top of the outer seal.

At some point I may look into the updated seals. But I'm very pleased right now and see no reason to.

Just to add....I think it's just as important to lube the inner seal as it is the outer one.

This doesn't surprise me at all since anything that works has probably been done before, I just hadn't read about it before trying. It wasn't noise that bothered me but a cold draft on ski trips.

Just updating things. Dead silence for months now. I'd like to add, again....that I'm beginning to think the inner door seal may be more important than the outer seal. If you have the noise, try focusing on the inner seal on the door jamb.

My 2015 DC had the squeak often when I first bought it... I have not heard it at all since I installed a set of in-channel vent shades...

???... I don't know why, but that seems to have worked for me...

2 Solutions that worked 100% for me was

    1. Roll the window down

    and/or

    2. Turn the music up

My stereo on avg is 115db when it's at 3/4 volume and I still was able to hear the creek over it. Plus it will be 110 degrees next week and rolling with the windows down in 110 degree weather sucks. Bending the door was my fix and it's been ok since I did it. All other tricks I tried were temporary and never really did solve the issue.

Sylglide did nothing but make a big mess I had to cleanup. It did 'show' me where the seal leak was though, which is the right-angle of the seal. I'm able to re-create the creaking/tapping by pushing the door seal at that corner location, at times.

I also tried the 3/8" frost-king extruded insulation foam method - no good. At certain times I still have the tapping and creaking noise, or I can hear bass-air escaping when my stereo is set at low volume. Temperature doesn't even have influence (I'm sure temperature conditioning plays a significant factor though) over whether tapping occurs.

I have no other options now aside from bending the door, or otherwise rewarding Toyota for incompetency to design a proper seal by purchasing the revision door seal design from a dealer.

You can try a new door seal, I did and it didn't help me at all. Had to bend the door which really sounds a lot more scary than what it is. Still as of today, no issues since I bent the door.

It depends on where the leak is but it seems common for the doors to flatten out and loose seal pressure along the top since that part is the weakest. I had to tweak the drivers side door on both of my previous trucks and it was a bit of anxiety the first time. Another thing is the gaskets themselves need maintainence, clean them and the surface they seal to so they don't stick or wear on the dirty surface.

Not sure how much you used. I've not really seen much of a mess at all. My seals have been so quiet for so long now, I frankly don't even think about it anymore. Maybe the thicker corners I have from the 1/4" inserted vacuum line I have puts more pressure on the door jambs, requiring less lube.

I have also fixed the kazoo crosswind sound by fitting some 5/36th vacuum line behind the length of the upper portion of the outer door seal. Can't even tell it's there.

I posted in this thread in November, 2015. My how time flies.

I was just reminded of the thread when I was exiting the Tacoma today and glanced up at my "temporary" friction tape fix from 6 years ago. The tape looks a little worse for wear, but it is still there, and it still works.

I must admit, after 6 years and 100,000 miles, many other even louder noises have started to take it's place, bu I'll be darned if that left ear window squeak has never come back.

Ironically, I have another different new vehicle. It makes the same noise at the same spot.

Need to go find that roll of friction tape.
