I only applied the tubing to the seal on the door. Should I have done the inner seal as well @Large

I only did the door as well but I did the perimeter of the door seal. Bottom, top and the side that is closest to the latch.

As I understood it, they're cutting the weatherstrip and inserting tubing into it to stiffen it and force it outward. Maybe I'm wrong? :notsure:

I think plain jane taco is right when he says the tape just changes how the 2 surfaces interact. i don't think its how tight you have to make seals , its the dynamics between paint and that inner seal. when it gets cold my passenger side does it to, possibly rears to?:annoyed:
That's it i'm moving south:tumbleweed::notsure:. How pathetic is it we all have vehicles under warranty but don't trust dealers enough to demand they fix
this shi/stuff. At least that's my problem.:threadjacked: the 1 time so far i have taken taco to dealer (tint) i watched a 400 lb tech??? try and force
himself into my drivers seat ,i thought F me. ( 5'5" 400 Lbs) Toyota care F that ill change oil myself .

Ohh. If you look at my pic I put a little piece also to the left. It's kind of hidden.

An update on what has worked for me. I bought some self adhesive rubber weatherstripping at a local hardware store yesterday. I put it inside the door frame exactly where the OP put tape. The noise was not present on my way to work this morning nor was there any additional wind noise. It's incredibly ugly and I plan on finding a better solution, but was curious to see if a thicker material than tape would work. So far it's promising... More updates to come...IMG_4219.jpg

Yep, something like this is my next step/proof of concept.

I should point out my Truck has 3000 miles on it and probably will not be at the dealer for another two months for the initial service, at which point I will make them address it permanently. I just want to figure out a general fix to help "guide" them and see if it can be temporarily resolved in the mean time.

Wonder how this will hold up in the below zerp temps over here in the North East. As the crackling sound gets worse as the cold weather gets worse

Best of luck with this but I'm not optimistic for a dealer resolution. My truck only has 8900 miles on it and I probably won't even mention it at the 10k service because of my lack of faith that they'd fix it. My skepticism is based on the numerous other threads about this issue with not a single person having success with a dealer fixing it. A couple people have had the dealer acknowledge the noise but to the best of my knowledge they had the door seals replaced only for the noise to continue. Good luck though and keep us posted!

I'm interested too because I'm in the midwest. The noise is getting worse as it cools off and I want a permanent fix. So far the adhesive on the rubber weatherstripping I bought seems decent. I should also mention I tried buying self adhesive foam weatherstripping that didn't work. It compressed too easily and the adhesive was poor quality.

I'm to the point with this that when I find a fix that works I'll do whatever it takes to make it permanent. Including putting 3M adhesive on the back of the rubber weatherstripping to keep it there for good. Assuming this continues to work...

I don't truly expect they will fix it, but I thought I saw a few folks claim they made "and adjustment" that resolved it. we will see.

FWIW #2: I live in AZ and it made this noise in 110 degree heat in July and August.

Sub'd. Been fighting this thing since I got my new '15 this summer. Talked to the dealer about it and they said they didn't hear anything and wouldn't fix anything. So for everyone out there thinking a dealer might be the best bet, no luck there friends. Also tried weatherstripping from Home Depot on the inside door jam to hopefully create a better seal that way, actually made the problem worse. That's what got me thinking it has something to do with weatherstripping and the door coming apart every so slightly and making the noise. Going to definitely try the tape thing and I've been thinking about lubing it up with silicon or something, hopefully that works or one of the other solutions on here.

So far I don't have this on my 2015. 2 1/2 months 2500 miles. Good thing because noises drive me nuts and I am mechanically challenged.

Update - So far my fix in post #88 is still going strong. Not a peep out of that door since I put that weatherstripping on. Still don't like the way it looks but happy to be making progress toward a permanent fix.

Houston brings up a good point, one of the frustrating things about this is that some fixes work for some people and not others. Which also reminds me there's a side of this problem I don't think anyone has addressed.

Starting from the beginning, I think there are two sources of the noise - 1. The weatherstripping making noise against paint and 2. The weatherstripping making noise internally.

#2 has been addressed by some people spraying silicone in the weatherstripping on the door. But there's weatherstripping on the cab in the door frame too that I don't think anyone has tried messing with.

Also, regarding #1, there are two ways this could be happening. The weatherstripping on the door making noise against the paint on the cab or the paint on the door making noise against the weatherstripping of the cab.

For those that haven't found a solution, I'd try the common solutions backwards. For example, put the tape on the cab where the door weatherstripping meets.

    Just a thought...

This scotch magic tape is working well for me (not that i like the way it looks). With the door closed, I can reach up and basically "make" the noise by pressing on the cab side rubber seal where the seal is in direct contact with the metal on the door. If I move one inch further back and try to "make" the noise, but in a location where there is tape- I can not "make" the noise if I try.

So, as someone else said- it's the interaction of those two substances that is causing the irritating sound. honestly, it's really weird that it occurs in the same spot for everyone. If it's pressure related, just by chance you'd think this would happen elsewhere in the vehicle. Why just 6 inches on the driver side? And why won't it stop when pressure is changed (for those that "stiffened" the seal)?

Or is the stiffening working? Ha I'm getting tired if reading back through this thread. I'm sure I'm not flying solo on that one.

You should also run some tape down the vertical part of the door frame....as well as bridging the 2 pieces with one in the corner.

While I'm here I might as well update. Been pretty cool the last few mornings....low 30's F. If the cab is completely quiet....no radio and no conversation I can sometimes hear some very faint 'fluttering" from that area if I really listen for it. But I have to be focused on it. One thing I have to remind myself of is that I'm hypersensitive to ANY noise that may come from that area. Had that been the only noise that had ever come from that area.....well frankly, I would never even noticed it at all. I'm satisfied with the fix and will close my case for now. If something changes I will update again.

We should definitely keep this thread up and running. Hearing how people are addressing this issue....both success and failures, can only benefit all of us.

Put some tape on this morning, both on the door and the cab sides, we'll see how it holds up. Luckily I have the MGM color so black electrical tape doesn't stand out. Hope this fixes it, I'll keep you guys updated.

As Plain Jane said, let's keep this up and going, I'm sure there's others out there that have this problem too. I spent months looking for this before I found it this week, hopefully we cab help others with this.
