I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
So my lovely wife alerted me to my 07 making wierd noise. I listened to the truck and indeed sounded odd. So I consulted FSM but nothing there about wierd noises.
2 days scratching my head and no idea, today my wife drops "How about air filter"
Since I could not figure out whats wrong with it I was like ehh what the heck I will change it so I open the hood, unlock filter look at it and and go WTF.
filter is full of the holes (as you can see, So for shitz I tap o n the the airbox and freaking mouse charges on me like a MOFO making angry squeak like a battle cry, jumps out of the air duct and off the engine on the ground and runs away with me standing and just trying to process what just happened.
    CIMG1464_2e057a1999aa776135e4b3a5fb4233585f51ca6a.jpg
So whats next... I will be mouse proofing my truck with Hot Dog tray made out of the aluminum mesh. it wont stop them but after they squeeze trough they will be bold and freeze at night, atleast thats what I am hoping for.
    Little fu...rs
    :D

Your lucky that it didn't die. The smell is almost impossible to get rid of. My mom had a Corolla that something got up into the vent and died. The smell was the worst thing I have ever smelled. Glad you got it out.

We had a similar problem with the wifes Highlander. Mice in the cabin air filter set up shop there and screwed up the heating/AC until it met its untimely death. And costed us 2 new filters.

Happened to my mother's Jeep liberty. Mice caused 700$ of damage. Ate some wires to sensors. Check engine light came on. Lucky insurance covered most of it.

Does anyone with mouse problems park in a garage? Do you keep dog/cat food in the garage? If so, don't. They just want food and a warm place (your engine) to hang out. Also put down traps or bait. I work at a dealership and have seen several cars with chewed wiring harnesses, etc. Many times you'll find a lot of dog food under the hood as well.

So that is the real reason for the charcoal filter behind the air filter.

if you powder puff cayenne pepper powder around the engine bay and what not they won't come back

a light dusting, won't matter when it blows away from driving

enough will be around critters won't like it
