So I've been trying to come up with a solution on how to successfully get my 90lb. pitbull up and dog from the RTT. It is always a struggle in the morning to coax him to the edge and pull him out while he fights me on it and he won't just jump. I've looked into purchasing a ramp for this, but they are far too expensive and they are not compact enough. Long story short...

I've decided the easiest solution would be to create an affordable/collapsible ramp for the dog and the RTT.

Currently, I'm open to ideas for the design of the of the ramp so any input on materials would be helpful. I was thinking of either a tri-folding design or a retractable design. I have been looking into aluminum I beam as the foundation, but i'm worried the weight will add up quickly.

What do you guys think? Any help or other solutions would be appreciated!

Yeah this thing is pretty expensive. Could probably build it for cheaper.

I've been playing around with the idea of putting steps on the ladder of the RTT.

and one thing to remember one's dog may not want to run up or down a steep ramp,,especially one's thats narrow,,if the dog can see over the sides and develops a fear he aint going up or down that thing,,,i think the stairs model could overcome this being stairs are a bit more natural and familiar to them,,but its insanely expensive...if somebody could build these for 99 bucks id buy one..
i got a feeling my dog wont like a ramp..

That's very true. I'm looking into material options to build a retractable system right now. Trying to have it light weight, compact, and durable. Here is an option for a track system made of aluminum, but i'm worried it won't support the weight of the dogs as they run up and down it.

yeah 18lbs is doable, multiply that dog by 5x the weight, add dog nerves, and ladder and you'd have my issue. haha

    No not at all

I just don't use the annex and the dog will whine and yelp all night if he's not with me.

It was obviously a more expensive option, but one of the reasons we went with a wedge style camper was to be close to our 45lb and 65lb golden aussies. We typically all climb in the bed of the truck at the end of the day and they fall asleep 'downstairs'. A few minutes later my wife and i can slip in to the 'upstairs' and they don't notice we're gone until they start thinking about breakfast in the morning.

In retrospect it would have been a lot cheaper to kick the dogs off the bed when they were younger.
