Ok I have a 2010 4cyl tacoma. Lately It doesn't want to start all the time when you attempt to start it it'll make one click. Battery was replaced last December not sure if the alternator would play into this?

Not sure if the newer 4 could have the same density starter as the first gens and early pickup’s, but the contacts in the solenoid and the plunger tend to burn up and cause click no start issue. The needed parts were way cheaper throug Subaru the last time i needed them. https://www.amazon.com/Starter-Rebuild-Reduction-Starters-Contacts/dp/B007FR1FT6

The plunger and contacts are in the small chamber for lack of a better term above the actual starter motor? I could just undo the two bolts on the cap and take the cap off and see? If my explaination makes sense?

Yes you can also YouTube “demos solenoid contact” and find plenty of info. A lot of time when they are going bad if you cycle the key a few times and make it click it will start as usual. It knocks free some of the shit on the contacts so it can make connection again

Do you by chance know what the contact part name or number would be? I found the plunger. Seems to be the same starter from the first gens as well.
