In the past I have actually seen people remove the transponder from the key and glue it to the cylinder. Once it’s in a spot the coil will read, it will be able to be started with a cut key blank. Only issue is if a crook punches the ignition with a screw driver, he’ll be able to drive off with your truck. If that’s a risk you’re will to take, then there’s that option.

If you really wanted to get creative, and not destroy a key, you could install a remote start and security bypass module, trigger the activation wire on the unit with the key sense of the truck. That will send the security info to the BCM and you should be able to then use the key blank. It’s a lot of work for really the same exact result
No way to disable it. Unless Toyota has a model that uses the same BCM in a different model that doesn’t use a transponder. Pretty sure just about every single Toyota now, has a transponder. Do you lose a lot of keys? If so the dealership I worked at used to have this key program. We used an outside company who had cheaper keys. You purchase this key replacement program and any you lose you call them and they come and replace your key. Some cars like Audi/bmw etc, they can’t just cut and clone a key so you have to order an actual key from the dealer. Some of the vw/Audi keys they have to send directly out from Germany. Anyways...

Maybe there are some more creative ways/things you could do. Just really depends on what you’re trying to accomplish

I'll just say this, electronics nowadays aren't what they used to be (and that's a good thing). I once owned a Cadillac that made me very anti-gadget for a long time. The auto brights wouldn't work if the auto headlights were on, and I couldn't get brights at all if I turned on the lights at the switch. If someone pressed in the rear passenger cigarette lighter (the Fleetwood had more lighters than the new Tacoma has cupholders) the radio stopped working.

The new gadgets are pretty stout, I haven't had a single issue besides operator error. No worries about longevity.

The big thing that you really have to question is the accelerator-by-wire. It's a different driving experience, and for the first 1800 miles, it's going to be not too pleasant. It takes the truck that long to learn your driving habits and it changes the go-pedal to match your style. Until then, the gas pedal gives an unpredictable response, leading to much frustration. By 3000 miles I had it pretty well figured out. I'm on mile 2000 of my 2nd taco now, it's starting to settle down just like the first one did .

So do you need it? Nah. Will it enrich your life? Probably. Take a few more test runs and let us know what you think

Hopefully you don't have a big key ring. One of the main reasons vehicle ignitions wear out is folks with massive hoops of rings. The weight bears on the cylinder and this causes premature failure.

You think cars are strange to get used to driving by wire, try riding some of the motorcycles from about 6 years ago and latter when combining anti this or that. You're leaned over into a turn, roll on the gas......and nothing 'til it figured out what to do. Downright dangerous. I figured it was my time to stop thinking of new bikes but they have become smoother. Couple years there though I thought they had ruined motorcycling for good.
