    Hey All!!
Ok i was thinking about taking off the roof of my Taco and converting it into a soft top but at the same time being functional for a roof rack. It is clear in my head how it’d look and work but im not an expert in this area. So my questions for everyone are..
    Would it be possible?
Would removing the roof compromise the frame if any way?
Is there there a shop that custom make roofs for vehicles??
Any help or insight to this idea would be greatly appreciated

Anything is possible, but this would be a huge undertaking. There’s airbags, wiring, and structural work too.

My experience coming from a Gladiator is that you can’t have both a soft top and a solid roof rack. You should be able to put on a Yakima rack that attaches in the door rain gutter but any serious rack will interfere with the soft top.

There was a company back in the 80's that made convertible top kits for mini pickups. Fad didn't catch on.

The interior of a 'Taco is not amiable to exposure to the elements. What you seek is a dune buggy.

At least you'll eliminate the 3rd brake light leak.

Trying to wrap my head around this one. Are you trying to go with a convertible top? Or a sliding rag top like an old VW?

Convertible top .. not such a good idea.

But the sliding rag top would be kinda cool.

I say do it, take lots of video and pics for us, and have a good time doing it! Also don't forget the drain lines!

I would just buy a Jeep product, unless you have a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket. Almost anything is possible with enough time and money.

This was done from the factory before.

You throw enough money, time or butchery at something, anything is possible.

Because the truck is body on frame, you are not affecting the frame structure at all. Only the body structure will be affected. Rollover protection would be affected so you might consider a rollover bar. If you call around, you can find an Automotive Upholstery business that can make a simple bikini top or a functional drop top.

Please post pictures if you do the mod!

A rag top Hummer might just be the ticket. Come on Lottery ticket, or the rich dead uncle that doesn’t exist.

If OP is serious, maybe he could do a dry run on a high mileage beater first before taking the torch to a nice truck.
