Hey Tacoma World, new user first post. I've been looking to moving into a tacoma for some time now and have had a hard time finding the truck for me. What im looking for is a Tacoma Crew cab, auto, 4x4, TRD Off Road, short bed (Really want a locker as i plan to do allot of offroading). Im Looking at this truck

    http://www.vipautosd.com/vehicle-de...b-4wd-truck-2ef9a7074392a44ab92a28b0f143ff18/

The price seems reasonable as a stock 2014 tacoma trd off road on kbb is around 31K, and I planned on doing these mods that the truck already has at some point so that's a plus. This Truck is a 2014 with 24k and a clean car fax with only one owner. But what I want to know is should I steer clear of a modded Tacoma even one that has low miles like this one, and what should I really look for besides frame rust, cracks and the welding on the rear suspension? Also if anyone knows the brand / manufacture of the front and rear bumper that would be helpful as I’ve looked thru tons of threads on here and cant find out what brand these are. Thank you for any info or insight you may have. Ill be going to take an in-depth look at this truck this weekend.

choo choo, front of boat, snowplow, bulldozer and mad max all come to mind. Front bumper a bit over the top for me but hey, wildlife beware. I am not really a fan of front glass only but hey, headstart, just need the bedsides. Not sure about the mossy oak tan armrests. Not my cup of tea but go for it if it speaks to you. Personally, for that money I think I'd start with a lower mileage stock truck but not my deal tho.

Yeah, wrapped or painted black. Not sure grill matches oem body color exactly either. Guess another question might be, Do you need a bed you can use and a tailgate or not?

No way in hell would I buy that heavily modified vehicle. Plus the front bumper looks absolutely ridiculous. That is priced almost the same as the sticker price was on my 2012 for fucks sake. The truck is worth book value for the vehicle in poor condition, the poor condition being that it is heavily modified.

Yea it looked like the front fenders grill and rear fender flares are painted a different silver, i know some people in the paint and body industry so i can get those repainted someday. and yea it would be nice to have a real tailgate (and im not super digging the prerunner style wheel tailgate) but i can wait till a front end damaged tacoma comes into a pick a part and pick up a tailgate.

Why wouldn't you buy one that modified ? ( looking to hear opinions as i was looking for negative aspects as well ). and ive been looking for a 2010-2014 tacoma trd off road and they all seem to be in the 26 - 33k ish range depending on mileage and this one has low miles compared to most.

They do look a little off im going to say that is the picture as in other pictures it dosent look like it to me, i wont be able to tell until i look at it in person different color doors is a red flag for sure. and yea im not a huge fan of the front bumper but that can easily be changed and i plan too. and really ive never heard of that before about carfax is there a better resource to use?

Another resource, unfortunately not. A clean carfax is a plus and holds weight but shouldnt be end all be all, which you probably know anyways. If you plan on modding and you can talk them down a touch, then I would say go for it. Gotta ask yourself this though. The other owner obviously dropped some serious cash into the truck ( bumpers rear and front, suspension and what not)... so that raises the question why sell after only 2 years? I'm always afraid of taking on anothers problems and that is why I only buy new, granted it costs me more money and for the most part used vehicles are reliable and a great fiscal purchase. THis is why modding your vehicles is always a gamble when it comes to to resale.

I do plan on modding and off roading, I’m coming from a fully built show car that was babied and am ready for a truck I can off road, beat up , and daily without a worry about terrain. I think that I will be able to talk them down some if I end up liking what I see, this all depends on how it looks and feels in person of course. Yea that is a total concern of mine as well why thow all this work into it and get rid of it so quickly this is the first used car I will be buying so I’m being very precautious

Me personally, I would never buy a modified vehicle. I don't know everything that has been done to it. I wouldn't even buy my own truck if it was up for sale. $33k for that? Nope. Most of the fun we have with these vehicles is working on them ourselves.Watching the Fedex or UPS dude show up with packages of enjoyment. I will also say that the front and rear bumpers are hideous. Like caitlyn jenner hideous.

I'd pass on it. Too many things need to be removed. You can find one that is closer to stock and customize the way you see fit.

Why are the front panels and hood painted a different color than the rest of the body? That would be my first question. If it was just for aesthetics, fine, but if it's for another reason I'd be concerned.
