Possible upgrades for a 4 cylinder

    2012 2.7L Double Cab PreRunner SR5
    I have a 2012 2.4 l Prerunner and I was wanting to know if there are any performance upgrades for this engine. I was hoping to get more torque to add some pounds to my max towing power.

    New to Tacoma World so wasn't sure if this was already asked or if this is the right forum to ask this. Thanks!

    basic bolt ons, turbo it or better yet engine swap with a turbo... if you want torque. All about money and time :thumbsup:

    Seriously, swap it out for a DOHC LS engine. :cool:

    Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.

    My 2.7 daily driver work truck is always loaded down with tools and material, so I run two simple bolt on mods that modestly increased the low end torque.

    A LCE long tube header...

    ...and a tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer.

    These two mods lengthen the individual exhaust tubes as well as the individual intake runners. And on the dyno, both working together lowered the torque peak from 3,800 rpm down to 2,900 rpm, while increasing the peak torque value by 20 ft lbs.

    Thanks. I heard about the header being installed in some tacomas but wasn't really sure on what it did. I think lowering the torque peak would be good because I reach it everytime I'm towing my boat up this big hill leading the lake.

    I appreciate the replies, but I don't think trading in the car would be affordable now. But just in curiosity, how do engine swaps work. I understand the basics of it, such as finding a donor engine and switching it for the current one, but where do you find these engines and how much does it usually cost for the whole project?

    Generally speaking, whenever you make the passageways longer on either side of an engine, it produces more torque, and that increased torque becomes available at lower rpms.

    I had my Tacoma only 6 days before I put the long tube header on it. It's the best bang for the buck mod hands down. :thumbsup:
