Index stocks have a better ROI than most collectables, with less work needed.

It's just not the feel good sexy story of how dedicating large portions of your house to a hoarding situation collection for a third of your lifespan finally paid a dividend.

Yeah if it’s even a hassle to even not drive a vehicle very much while keeping it at good condition, might as well as just enjoy using the vehicle as intended.

Yes. Your insurance will have a storage rate. It covers theft and damage from fire/water. Not that expensive.

If I were to win the lottery I'd buy two. I'd buy another AC Cab and DC Cab.
Then I'd hire an architect and tell him to build me a house and a garage worthy of the the Tacoma's.

I think it would be cool to buy it, take it apart into all its 1000’s of individual parts, then store it in your attic in multiple cardboard boxes. When you die, your next of kin can try and figure out what it is.

with the timeframe you are talking, you better buy lots of gasoline for it. gasawhat?
that would probably be a better investment.
and then there is the waiver to be able to actually use it on a public road.
    someday.

There was a dude on the Mustang forum that bought matching 2009 GTs new. One to drive, and one to store for "future investment value collector item". The 2009 was the last year of the S197 "retro" look before Ford made changes to the body style that softened the "retro" look.

That Mustang is currently worth about $5k or so. Unknown if it runs, and even now you can't get parts for the S197 anymore. Moral of the story is "vehicle ≠ investment" He could have put that $35k into a stock purchase or something and made money.

Theoretically... I feel like a babied low mileage 2nd or 1st gen TRD would be more valuable in this situation. But if that plan falls apart in 40 years you could always swap in a ETM. :D

To buy a new car and just put it away sounds crazy thinking what it will be worth in the future. I worked with a guy in 1986 who bought 2 brand new Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme's and put one away. He drove the one until there was nothing left and did the same with the other one when he realized the value never took off. Maybe that would have been different with a 442.
I recently bought a new 2022 Mazda CX5 and drive it sparingly . Just rolled 1000 miles. With the prices on new cars we decided to buy now and save it for the future. I am 64. I also have a low mileage 13 Sienna and 17 Tacoma. The Sienna being a V6 may eventually have to go. I doubt I will be buying anymore cars. I dont see myself driving EVs.
I also sold my 65 Galaxie 500 recently which I paid $1500 for in 1988. I did the restoration myself for about $15000. When I sold it I paid cash for the CX5. Keeping cars like that is debatable. The future is also changing quickly and will affect what we will be driving eventually.
I'm old enough to remember when cars had fins and gobs of chrome. That 65 Galaxie I sold had a new car sticker price of $3300 in 1965. Drive and enjoy them.

Like others have said.... Invest that money and you'll be further ahead.

Likely the best scenario is that you'll just have a "new" third gen to drive twenty years from now. Which is sort of cool.

I just can't imagine a Tacoma worth much. Gas may be a zillion dollars a litre that far in the future.

We all like the Tacoma here, but, it's nothing particularly special.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
It’s worth running a few financial models to see how the same $30-40k will grow over the next 20-30 years, as well as costs of holding that money. Average returns on a stock or mutual fund, CD’s, etc vs what a truck value may grow at as well as storage and maintenance fees. Also look at the inflation aspect to estimate what the inflation rates will be to ensure your investment stays ahead of that.

I’d look at Bring A Trailer for some low mileage trucks and cars to get an idea…hen see what the $$ was worth when it was bought to see how well they did. I think most vehicles overall “lose” on this in the long run unless you have something exotic or rare, like a solar octane TRD PRO 6 speed.
