If you set the sound settings so it is 100% out of one corner (eg all the volume out of front left or front right speaker), then set the volume to max, is it possible that would overload and blow out the speaker?

The radio isn’t going to transfer the wattage from the other channels to the channel you select. Most speakers are blown to due to distortion. So with that said, yes it is possible.

    Not in a second gen.

Just kidding. If your speakers were really cold maybe. Always remember to let your cabin warm up in colder weather before pumping your speakers hard.

What does that mean, blown due to distortion?

In response to the other comment, it hasn't gotten below 20 degrees yet at night, so not that cold. I do however blast metallica early in the morning to wake me up.

I'm asking because I upgraded all the speakers in the car, and one of the front ones went out a few weeks ago. I think it was just the wiring that went bad, as the speaker kind of crackles sometimes then comes back in and works just fine, then crackles and go out again. This happens frequently.

I've been playing around with the settings, turning the volume so its 100% at the corners to see if it will pop back in, and was worried that this may cause one of the tweeters to blow out or something (I have the subaru tweeters frequently recommended here). Don't know if this is even possible/something to worry about.

Haven't had time to go get the wiring fixed on the speaker that went bad.

Usually if a speaker blows the voice coil breaks and separates from the cone and the shitty sound is it trying to move but its not fully connected. Coil moves but speaker cone doesn't do much.

The speaker that is in question does sound really shitty, but there is some sound coming out of it. I figured it was the wiring since sometimes randomly it crackles a bit then comes back in and works fine for a while before going back out. Thoughts?

Any chance I could have blown the tweeters by setting it 100% to one of the front corners and maxing out volume?

If its random then could be a connection. As other noted setting it to one corner will not push all the power to that one corner. The power going to the channel does not change with balance or fading. Anything at full volume could lead to damage, not meant to run full blast. I do have to run my stock setup near that since the deck, speakers are weak. I usually turn down the bass some so it remains clear.

Hmm, interesting, I just assumed it could run full blast. I use the bluetooth on my phone, volume maxed out, and the volume knob on the truck maxed out. I have the Kicker KSC series component speakers with the subaru kicker tweeters. I assumed that since the installer said they could take an amplifier, they could do full blast volume ok.

Do you think I could have damaged the tweeters with this full blast volume?

Anything is possible. If they were truly damaged they would sound like shit 100% of the time. Sounds like could be a connection if its not all the time. Take it back to the installer.

You had new speakers installed, and one of those is crackling and popping? I'd say check your connections first. Sounds like you have a loose terminal. As the speaker thumps the connection vibrates distorting signal over the weak point.

How about simply damaging your hearing with the radio turned up to 11? I know, I'm just a killjoy.

Add an amplifier. More speakers are blown due to lack of power. The speaker can handle it, the stock radio can’t usually provide it.

I blew my speakers on purpose when I installed my aftermarket HU before putting in my new speakers. I’m not sure you can without a new amp.
