    Hey All-

2018 Taco Off Road 4x4. Long story short, I had Dakar medium leaf packs along with 6112s/5160s professionally installed recently and got vibrations around 25mph. I lived with it for a while as it was minor and the installers couldn't figure it out. I had my truck in the stealership this past week for regular maintenance and had them take a look. They measured my driveline angles and determined I needed 3 degree shims. Knowing it was expensive for them to install, I didn't care since I knew they'd stand by their work and guarantee the vibration would be solved... and it was.

The tech had the shims on hand and installed them as is. They are the shims with a hole in the middle and appear to be black painted steel. They did not use a longer center pin or bolt head lengthener / collar / spacer saying they didn't think it was needed. They said before the shims, about 5-6mm of bolt head was able to seat in the axle hole... and now with the shim they said about 3mm sticks out into the hole. I questioned this and they seem to think its fine.

They said if I want to buy the bolt head spacers they will discount the installation of them but are sticking to their guns saying the install is still OK as-is.

So I guess the question is how important is having enough bolt head insert into the hole of the axle? Per the tech, the u-bolts are what do the heavy lifting and not the center pin. Should I just let it be, or buy the collars and pay them a discounted rate to install?

    Same crap everyone else got
I would just let it be. I once had the a centerpin bolt head snap so my ubolt was the only thing keeping the axle centered on the leaf. It rode fine and stayed centered just by the ubolts until I fixed it. They work together and as long you have your ubolt snug down right and some of the head is in the hole, it would take some major force to have your axle move on the leaf.
