Replaced both hubs and bearings, the other day and all went well. @05Taco4x4 Everything was properly torqued.
Turned on on 4x4 for the first time this afternoon while I was out getting a load of wood. The ABS and Brake light came on. o_O 4x4 appears to be working fine though...I assume this is a wheel speed sensor issue. What do you guys think??

That's my first guess. I cleaned all the gunk out of there really well...figured it would fail after getting some attention. Lol

Try plugging in a code reader to confirm.

Jump pins 4 and 13 on the OBD2 connector, turn the key on and read the blinking light codes.

Will that process tell me something different than a standard scan would?

The magnetic tone rings may be defective on the new bearings. Or damaged from the press.

They don't have tone rings. It reads the bearing.

A scan tool will read the codes too. If you have one use it.

On the magnetic tone ring on the inside of the race.

There's nothing you can see. If there's anything special, it's inside the bearing. It's one of those unexplained magic things.

Not sure why your brake light came on, that wouldn't have anything to do with the bearing rings. I've had the ABS light come on while going very slow in 4x4, read it a few times here, but it goes out once pick up speed. Your sensor may not be out, possible got grease on the ring or sensor and throwing things off (that was culprit for one guy iirc)

You can actually install the bearings upside down, the brown tone ring is visible from the inside. If its chrome its backwards.

I'll pull the codes in the morning and see what the dilly is.
Strange that the dummy lights didn't come on until I cycled the 4x4.
    My bet is a sensor.

So, I was curious about the whole tone ring thing. I popped what looked like a seal on a sealed bearing out of the inner side of a junk bearing. Turns out it's not really a seal. It's just a shield. However, the junk bearing had ridges of gook about every 1/8" all the way around. The shield on the good bearing was smooth. Still curious, I touched the junk bearing against the good bearing and ridges of gook (apparently containing iron dust) appeared on the good bearing. So, here's the conclusion. What looks like a bearing seal is really a shield with a lot of magnetic "poles" imbedded in the rubber.

Happen to me, cleaned the sensor and it went away? Didn’t get the ABS light tho. Anyone have trouble with the driver side for the life of me I cannot get the axle but off even with my Milwaukee impact wrench? Did the passenger already.

Hit it with MAP gas (which is hotter and faster heat than propane) and heat it up good, but not red hot. Then a large breaker bar, should do the trick. My passenger side was a pain to get off too.

I went to pull the codes this morning and both the ABS and Brake lights were off. Guess the Gremlins fixed it last night :anonymous:
Must have been some gunk in there that came loose...

Just an update and a word of advice to those that are tackling this repair.
Do yourself a favor and replace the Wheel Speed Sensors while you have everything broke down. If the sensor busts off inside the spindle due to rust it will be an easy job to get it out if the hub is off...not so much if it's all back together. :censored:
