While some of y'all out west are dealing with snow, I got nothing but mud and fog to deal with.

Took these Sardis Lake at Hurricane Landing (north of Oxford, MS). Lakes low enough to drive out onto the lake bed. But we had a pretty decent rainstorm on Wednesday to cause some fog to lingering around most of the morning on Thursday. The fog really made the scene kinda eerie.

Fun fact for ya: if you look at map of Mississippi, you'll see a series of lakes (Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid, Grenada, and Ross Barnett Reservoir) on the west side of the state. These lakes are used to help control the flooding in the Mississippi Delta (and emptying into the Mississippi River).

During the 30-40s, under FDR "new deal," the construction of these lakes (even will into the 50-60s), bought up land where these lakes are now.

And many of these same lands had family farms, churches, cemeteries, and family plots. The government bought these lands (and even offered to relocate) loved ones to new resting places. Some families did. Other didn't. So literally, there are people still buried under the waters of these lakes.

Well may be this will give ya an idea:

    20211230_103658.jpg 20211230_103701.jpg 20211230_103759.jpg

These pics were taken on the north shore (same day). The building up on the hill is called Holiday Lodge (local restaurant in the area called Harmontown). Below that, you see a parking lot with street lights. Water has been known to cover that lot. Given enough rain, it's reached near the top of the of the white rocks in this those first 2 pics.

In pic 3, my truck is parked at the very end of the concrete pavilion. Beyond that the water line webs and weaves. The fog doesn't exactly allow to get a very clear idea of how far back it is.
